Autumn Pasquale benefit ride/show? Your thoughts...

If you haven't heard, 12 year old Autumn Pasquale of Clayton,NJ was the victim of a senseless murder by 2 peers Saturday. She was killed because they wanted her bike.

Here's a link to the details if you're not familiar with the story.
http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=463824

She was well known throughout the community for her love of bmx and I feel it's only fitting that the bmx community pay their respects to her and her family.

I propose that we have an organized gathering at the skatepark that she frequented in Clayton, taking donations for the family. We could ride from there to the lake in Franklinville or??? My suggested date would be this Saturday, say 1pm? The weather looks good. I was going to talk with a few car buddies of mine to see if we can get a car show organized for Saturday also.

Your thoughts on the date, time and possible suggestions?

PLEASE KEEP THIS THREAD ON TARGET WITH ONLY COMMENTS ON THE RIDE.

Can't do the ride because of upcoming knee surgery, but I would be up for the show/swap meet with proceeds going to Autumn's family.

Re: Autumn Pasquale benefit ride/show? Your thoughts...

This weekend isn't good for me. While I understand trying to set things up quickly, I think a little more notice would help people make plans. I'm not trying to be insensitive, just practical. The following Saturday would work better for me, but go with whatever date the most people can make.

I agree with the two posters above me. I work this weekend, but would really like to attend.
Next weekend I could probably make it.

Too soon bro.  Your head and heart are in the right place, but it is ENTIRELY too soon.  I have already been considering this as well, but it really needs to be done in the spring time.  It is too short of notice for everyone to make it and the family needs time to grieve etc.

I will PM you.

Given the time, I'd bet our little BMX family here could put on quite the event/fundraiser. cool
No doubt we could do a huge spring event... you've seen the turnout for the Philly events, I'm sure this good cause could trump those.

Re: Autumn Pasquale benefit ride/show? Your thoughts...

I have already contacted Odyssey and some other people about sponsoring.  This will be huge if given the right preparation and hopefully can benefit a charity or foundation that will invariably be set up.  Maybe do the initial one in the spring, and then have them annually in "Autumn".

I agree with this but we should have some stickers made & sold now to help the family with any costs they may have for a funeral. Then have fund raisers in the "Autumn" in memory of her.

Re: Autumn Pasquale benefit ride/show? Your thoughts...

I just got off from the Phone with the head of EHT BMX and we're going to do something in Autumn's memory on 11/10 during the Veterans Day Race/ BMX Swap. We're discussing a few options and have to make some contacts before we announce exactly what we will do. Two things being discussed right now are the possibility of a bmx bike being given out to a needy girl every year and possibly a raffle at the race to raise money for her family or a charity in her name

I'll need some help at the race/swap , so anyone interested in helping, hit me up

LOOKING FOR :
JW Pro stem,  Profile Pro  1-1/8" Black stems  ( in New to Very Good Condition!!!!!)
Standard Bykes 125R frame stickers & Standard 24" fork (99/2000 Era)
Profile Racing chain tensioners in DK Gold (mid school)
Primo Chad DeGroot grips

BMX was meant to be about riding (actually jumping or trying to do tricks) and having fun, I feel sad for you if you've forgotten that

Re: Autumn Pasquale benefit ride/show? Your thoughts...

Ok this is a very sad situation no doubt. And I think something needs to be done in her memory. But 1 person needs to stand up and take charge of whats going to happen. There are to many people saying this and that and the other.

There WILL be something happening on 11/10 @ EHT BMX in her honor. The details are being worked out with the track, and I've reached out to the bank to see if we can find out what her families wishes are as far as us doing something like a raffle.

I'm not trying to step on anyone else's toes that wants to do something. I put this out there because there will be hundreds of racers and their families there that day as well as at the swap, and with what ever is given th go ahead, we will need some volunteers

There is a Children's Memorial Flag, I'm wondering if we could have someone adapt it to make the one kid a girl standing over a bike for the stickers?

Re: Autumn Pasquale benefit ride/show? Your thoughts...

Ok, then I guess it's a no go... I was thinking this weekend because the following two weekends there are events scheduled,  the week after that is Thanksgiving then we're in December. I wasn't worried about the pomp and pagentry associated with having stickers, etc. That could all be done at a later date. This is more on a personal level with me. My daughter has played in the house next to these animals. I have watched Autumn ride. It's more of a silent show of support. They took one of our kids

Re: Autumn Pasquale benefit ride/show? Your thoughts...

We are all upset and mad at the situation, but maybe we let the family grieve, THEN we do something.
I love the decal idea before any type of ride to collect some funds for the family.

THEN we get a ride together? I don't think we should wait until Spring though.
Although, Autumn for Autumn is perfect, IMO

If anyone wants to do something this weekend, they can just show up at the viewing and funeral.

I don't know how appropriate it would be, but those attending may consider doing so on their bikes.
I doubt it would be seen as anything but a show of support from other riders in the sport she loved and enjoyed.

I do agree that a benefit would be best done at a much later date, so it will be much better organized and have a large turnout. It would also give the family and community time to grive and people would be in a better place emotionally earlier next year. It would be great to have sponsors, and that would also take time.

Holding the event at the local skatepark sounds appropriate. Perhaps they would even consider renaming it for her or there might be an annual ride or contest from now on. I'm sure the community would approve.
