24" twin-top tube cruiser w/ fork - Build thread !
I'm building a 24" twin top tube freedtyle cruiser for the SF bike expo on Nov 10-13 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco .
Wile I'll have a bunch of other bikes I've built for my company this is a full documentation of a old school freestyle inspired frame build .
Today I started by laying out the custom bent / tapered twin toptubes in the JIG figuring out the best frame geo for this build . The overall team for this frame design will be part General RL with hints from a Ozone method 1 .
Along the way I mitered up the downtube to fit .
I'm also building a fork for this bike useing these components .
Stay tuned more to come , please post up your thoughts .
Thanks for looking !

Re: 24" twin-top tube cruiser w/ fork - Build thread !
I've been making small advances on this frame over the past 2 days .
I apologize for the lack of updates , I was at the shop pretty late last night .
So first off the BB shell was welded to the seat tube .
Always the first step on my frames .

I also machined a small insert for the seattube to help support the seatpost .
The tube I used for the ST is a double butted tube cut in half in the center of the thin section .
This gives you a thicker section at the bottom near the BB and tapered internally to the thinner top.
The insert extends about 2in into the thin section to create a upper butted section .

Re: 24" twin-top tube cruiser w/ fork - Build thread !
Next up was the mitering and final file hand fitting of the downtube into the frame and layout of the twins !
After laying out the shape of the frame and tweaking my geo a bit so the seattube sat in the exact location I wanted in relation to the bends of the twins . This is when a frame can go from fugly to sexy with small tweaks !
So now it was time to fit the each toptube in the mill vise and match miter each one . Yes this was the hard way to do the work but when your making one custom and not a thousand production bikes you kinda have to do it this way to figure out the design .
After measuring twice , then double checking my setup it was time to start cutting the twins !
Now it was time to set the toptubes into the frame to check miter fit and overall look of the frame .

I'm pretty happy on how this frame is coming out .
Next up, I start fitting the chainstay's in the chain stay subassembly jig .

Thank you for all the comPliments on the profess so far , I'm glad I could contribute to the forum ![]()
Here's a few shots of the chainstay's in the subassembly jig .
This is basically a piece of tooling plate with machined blocks set to the required spec's of what ever style bike your planning on building .

Right now I have it set for 110 rear Bmx spacing with Clarence for a 2.25 tire .
( more on parts later , I really scored a sweet set of treads for this baby ! )
The jig holds everything flat and allows you to keep the stays fixtures in the plate for mitering ,The chainstay tubes I'm useing are 3/4" tapered to 1/2" .
Oh the funky aluminum block is there to hold the spreader in flat .

Thanks Gary ![]()
That's a huge compliment coming from the curator of the museum .
Yes I'm sure I could be persuaded to build another , or part with this one for the right price ![]()
Here's a lil teaser on what's coming up tomorrow .
I have all these pieces on my desk , I believe with the right work they will come together into one of the coolest pieces I have ever built .

Re: 24" twin-top tube cruiser w/ fork - Build thread !
Mr. Headtube aproves of this thread !
I polished the rear dropouts to a mirror finish .
Then it was onto cutting the radius for the BB in the chainstay subassembly .
Once the radius cut was made the chainstay's were fit to the frame and dropouts .

Now it's time to stick this thing together , let's weld !!
