After two years of countless hours, searching for what sometimes seemed like needles in haystacks, I've finally acquired the last few pieces to complete my 1985 neon green Haro Master Freestyler. It is still entertaining to think that a bike I had coveted as a kid is now in my possession. While frustrating at times, It has truly been a labour of love. Missing the last minute bidding on EvilBay, or losing out to someone else's "DIBS" on a rare part I needed, was always offset by the thrill of a score on a part I thought I'd never find. Some parts almost fell in my lap, while others took some negotiating and a lot of patience! And after debating back and forth for quite some time, as to weather I should build it or not, I do believe the time has come to put all the pieces together. 2013 is an identical calendar to 1985, so I thought it would be a fitting build off to enter the bike into. As I gather and unpack the parts, from the various storage locations, I will try to add photos to document the build for those interested. I must thank all of the great members here, who have helped me source some of these amazingly well preserved pieces of BMX history!

My build began with a successful bid for a mint condition NOS Master from the BMX Addicts collection. It is an early Anlun produced, April manufactured frame without the knurling on the rear frame standers. The frame set was extremely well preserved and packaged in all of its original Anlun cardboard and plastic wrapping...

And incase anything should go sideways, a complete set of sealed NOS decals. They have always been stored in a box, out of the light. The green is a perfect match to the original decals on the frame...

J/K man That is one very cool bike your building. I know that will be a tough one to beat out on the calendar build off for sure! I hope when you are done you will submit that in the museum as well. I wish I had an '85 Master,.. especially NOS! All I have are these cheap ass Hutch bikes Best of luck to you and I look forward to seeing that bike finished and in the 2013 BMXMuseum calander.

Beautiful frameset! Just my opinion, DON'T build that one up, find another one and get it restored. Can't go back.

Can't wait to watch this build! Just finished an 85 and have an 86 sittin on the shelf. Trying to figure out what to do with it. Make sure to save all the packaging! Ha. Subscribed.

I can't believe one of these sold on ebay today for nearly 1500 - and people were asking if it had the original box, so probably would have fetched more !

Thanks Raven! It is always good to have Chuck Norris in your corner. Your green and black 85 Master almost had me change directions on my build. It is such a SICK color combo! I love it.

The competition in this build off is fierce! There are so many gorgeous bikes. I would consider myself very fortunate to make the calendar. A Hutch is tough to beat in any build off, let alone someone who submits TWO! Good luck to you also!!

Thanks! Unfortunately no. They have been the only part to elude me thus far, in the condition I need. I do have a few other options available, as a "plan B" for the build off, but I will always be searching for them.

Yes, I am in the process of building it now. I still have a few weeks remaining untill the build off deadline!

Have you thought about cool caps on new tuff II,s to give that mid 80,s look...........I am putting a set on a build and they look great
