Was this a Canadian thing?

Who all put quarters in their grips before installing to try and keep them from splitting on the ends?

Re: Was this a Canadian thing?

Nickels are the right size, I also used the little chrome plugs that were used on the 10 speed wrapped bars to close off the ends.  These days I use washers so that air can still circulate.  I've pulled grips off with nickels in them and found rusty bars due to trapped moisture

Re: Was this a Canadian thing?

Nickels and as mentioned, a washer with hole since I use an air compressor to get my grips on. Doing that with nickels sends one grip flying accross the gaarage when using an air compressor.

As a kid, I always had a nickel in the end of the grip.

If there is a pic of the Queen on one side of the nickel and a beaver on the other, then yes, it is a Canadian thing.  wink

I match the date on the nickel to the year of the bike.

Re: Was this a Canadian thing?

I did that with nickel before and I have seen some older model Harley Davidson during 70's-80's, the stem that hold handle bars not working good and tend to slip little so most doing add penny in the stem area then tight it real good to hold it.

I hate them. I miss the $2 bill and our new $50 bills are plastic. The penny is getting phased out too up here.

Your money is worth more than ours?    The dollar is not worth much anymore.

If you rub 2 new Canadian 100.00 bills together they smell like maple syrup.
Try it you will be amazed.
