Maybe not ... avoid the decals completely until you get the "feel" of it if you go that route.

i would either go 000 steel wool or maybe even some kind of compound very lightly then a good wax after.

Re: Survivor Original Pink hutch Hollywood
I always use New Finish or Color Back. They are very mild rubbing compounds. They should take the surface rust right off and leave the original paint.then follow up with a good wax.

Re: Survivor Original Pink hutch Hollywood
Dude , I use ZYMOL German cleansing wax and also a super fine rubbing compound that is for rubbing and buffing new paint etc. or color sanding then buffing. ( The stuff you buy at an Automotive paint supplier , no Wal-mart compound or anything ) Neither one will hurt the paint and will take off the rust stain dis-coloration.

Re: Survivor Original Pink hutch Hollywood
Cool, can't wait to see the results. Vinegar will take the paint off, don't use vinegar. Go the route 2 dr sedan said.
I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy.

Re: Survivor Original Pink hutch Hollywood
Citric Acid Powder (CAP) worked perfect on mine and didn't damage the decals at all. Put the complete frame fork and bars under water and let the powder do the rest. Took it out after 4 to 6 hours and with a rag wiped the rust right off.
A link with some pictures and more info on the powder
