So can you guys suggest a good bike for riding around and occasionally bashing on it. BMX platform preferred no gyros or extras bars on the frames like the old days, and light with quality metal no high tens stuff.
Are you looking for a race bike? Or more something for park/street riding? You'll get a lighter bike with a race frame, you'll get a more durable bike with park/street but that's not to say that either isn't good, each just has their own strengths. If you're not planning to get on a track, I'd look for a park/street bike as they seem to be more prevalent on craigslist. If you take it to a track once in a blue moon you can still ride it. At your height and weight, if you won't be grinding or doing any serious park/ramp abuse, either type of bike should suit you well.
If you find a F/S or trade ad from me, ignore it. If you send me a PM and I don't reply right away, I'm not ignoring you - just busy at the moment.
Do I owe you feedback? Please remind me via PM and I'll take care of it.

Re: I'm new.
I don't like the flat dull pastel colors being used now a days. This marble looking almost like a bowling ball caught my eye. While I was riding it around I wasn't impressed by the fatter tires or seat or even the cranking assembly. What impressed me instantly and you can feel the moment you throw your first pedal is the ergonomics. The geometry allows for more leverage which the bike respond easier and faster than my Dyno. I peddled hard and dove into it like my bike and it peeled out and thunk-ed I though I had broke it. It's not necessarily a whole lot lighter but the way it's engineered it feels lighter. Yea I'm liking it. My son isn't impressed yet, I told him just wait till you try it. He's alot taller than I am. To add it was below what I found it going for online. The main kicker was lay a way.![]()

Re: I'm new.
Nice
Its good to hear you like the feel of new school.
Where the music stinks, and they water the drinks, at the nudie bar.
Where the girlies dance in their underpants, at the nudie bar.
Where you see their butt, and their trap stays shut, at the nudie bar.
Where you can’t touch a breast, but you can cave in a chest, at the nudie bar.
Where you look at a thigh, and blacken an eye, at the nudie bar.
Where a buck’s enough to see their stuff, at the nudie bar.
Where the breasts may be fake but man do they shake, at the nudie bar.
Where you swear like a sailor, and wish you could nail her, at the nudie bar.

At 5-600 you are probably talking upper entry level to mid level bikes. The new school guys I've spoken to about costs (and it's not a whole lot of them but enough to get a feel) seem to be in the $1500-2000 price range for a top of the line bike fitted with top of the line parts. You can check your local CL, there are ALWAYS guys selling "custom BMX" but make sure you're confident the frame is what they say it is. Too many look very similar and you can't always find a stamp on them. Also, while I'd still prefer an American made bike, the Taiwan stuff isn't as bad as it was bitd.
Brands I'd lean towards if I had the cheddar include Standard (American made, and rider owned), S&M (also American made and rider owned. they're also the parent company of FIT), Bonedeth, Immortis (American made - if he ever does another run of frames, that is) and Sunday (owned by Odyssey - you remember them from bitd, don't you).
Keep in mind that you may find it a whole lot better to buy a second hand bike and try it out for awhile before you sink a lot of cash into this. Some guys love their new school bikes, some guys are old school til the day they die. It would suck to drop $500 only to find you prefer old school.
Welcome and have fun!+1 also go to your local bike shop and test ride bikes
+ 2.......what both of them said.....![]()
