Ok so the past few times I've gone to my friends house driving by on his street I've noticed one of his neighbors has a sweet old school BMX lying around in his yard amongst a pile of Next shock bikes and other junk .
Seems to be an early 80's chrome looptail with black mags and gold anno brakes , most likely freewheel mags then . Looks to have 3 piece cranks but hard to tell from a distance . No visible stickers on the frame , just dying to know what it is !

Here's the catch ..... usually I would just walk up to the house with cash and make an offer , but this is a bad neighborhood and this house has 3 or more chained up pitbulls in the yard , as well as a collection of broken cars , kids toys , broken quads , etc

Even worse , I ask my friend who lives there , he says its an older guy who is a known drug dealer , has fired off guns during numerous domestic disputes at his residence , and a few years back attacked some high school kids with a baseball bat , as well he bit a guys ear off during a bar brawl .
My friend says don't go there , you'll get shot or bitten by the pitbulls .

However every time I drive by I can't help looking at this bike .... wondering what it is and how I can get it it's killing me ! The guy has teenage kids that would maybe use the bike but there is more than enough Next double suspension bikes and new school walgooses in the yard i figure they would let the old school go for a bit of cash ...

I'm thinking I should man up and just go there with cash , but it's kind of stupid to risk your life for a BMX bike I don't even need , have too many already . My girlfriend saw the house she thinks it's a stupid idea , which leads me to think it may be a good idea . What do you guys think ?

Man, if you're asking us and haven't done it yet, that means fear is brewing within you, and that's okay. You definitely don't want those dogs smelling fear. It's quite probable that nothing bad would happen if you approached him like a man, but remember that it's just a bike, and ain't worth being maimed and such.

its a tough call. maybe if you catch him outside and say, Mister or Hey man, i want to buy one of your bike, maybe his light bulb will come on and be nice to you. who knows but gotta have some cajones to ask. Stay in the street when asking.

It;ll be a risky situation. What if that house was under surveillance and they see you walking up there and they happen to bust that house thinking your making a drug buy?
They take you down and search you and find cash in your pocket. Are they going to believe you that you went up to that house to buy an old 80s bike in his yard? Just sayin

binoculars take a real good look at the looptail and see any obvious high end trates ,there is a lot of low end looptails then research may not be worth the trouble

Is this bike worth a possible fist fight and winding up in the hospital for a concussion or something? The reality is that's *probably* the worst outcome. If the dogs can get to you inside the fence, then I would only stop if you are driving by and see a resident. If you can safely get to the door, I'd approach while calling out to the dogs (to draw attention to yourself from the house) and knock. If no one answers, leave a note on the door saying you're interested in buying old bikes, saw some there and your phone number and go home. If someone does answer, be polite and be prepared with the "I had one like it as a kid and think it'd be neat to have again" story. You've got no reason to go in the house, so don't ask. If he's as shady as you've been told, that may set him off. And if you see the bike and it turns out to be a Next, be ready to buy it anyway if the guy seems scary.

Have a firm price in mind and only carry enough cash that you wouldn't mind losing if you get rolled.

Thats what I'm thinking . gotta catch him when he's outside , but I also don't want to just hang out in front of his house and wait for him either , drug dealers get paranoid very quickly .Timing has to be perfect pretty much .

oh yeah i forgot THE BEST PART - his name is EARL and he's a fat guy in his mid 40's with a mean 80's mullet !!! LOL

I would stop and ask next time he is out side,no harm in asking,just keep your distance from those dogs.Guy might be cool,you never know unless you ask.

Just go for it!! All the talk you are hearing about the guy is all heresey.. You have no proof ..there selling drugs..or he's a bad guy. If you are going there ..maybe take someone with you ..like your parents ..girlfriend..that way they can get some dope and attacked also

Drug dealers are normally nice, they don't want to make enimeies. Give him a wave one day, a nod and a wave the next, then a "hey man" "what's up with those old bikes?" "I need one for my little brother!" "my mom is addicted to dope and dosent provide for us!" then he will feel sorry for you and his heart will grow three sizes like the grinch. He will give you his # to give to mom and the bike will be like the first "hit". Jus sayin.

I'm going to go over there as soon as I have a day off work and hopefully post up the score when I get it
