I recently purchased what I believe to be a relatively rare 1979 Worksman Limited Edition Deluxe Cruiser. A guy in Arizona posted this bike in the Klunkers For Sale FB Group and at first I thought it was just a frankenbike, but I saw where he made the claim that it was all original.

The bike intrigued me so I did some quick research and found out that Worksman did indeed offer a cruiser with this springer fork and staggered wheel set back in 79. There was a small write up on the bike in the November 1979 issue of BMX Plus Magazine about it.

This bike doesn't have a front drum brake like the bike in the article and it appears that someone swapped out the bars over time. I'm planning to contact Worksman to see if they have any stats on when this bike was made and how rare the fork might actually be. It has a Bendix 76 rear hub and the brakes are shot. No plans to refinish the bike...I think it just looks too dang cool as is!

Re: 26" Cal Custom Cruisers and Strandies...ONLY!

Speaking of strandies, does anyone remember the fold down foot pegs everyone in SoCal ran on their beach cruisers up front in the early 80's?  I'm talking before freestyle bikes came out.

They bolted on with the front axle nuts (you could also run them on the back), had a metal core with a round rubber outer part & folded down for feet rests.  I had a set, as did all my friends with beach cruisers.  Every bike shop in SoCal had them, as did most stores with a bike department (mine came from Kmart).  They were great for giving a girl a ride home from school on the handlebars.  They were a big reason that the handlebars had the foam from one end to the other.  Can't even find a pic on Google images, much less fleabay.  Several other type are available, but not the ones I remember.

Am I the only one that remembers them?

They came off motorcycles. They have a specific name I can’t remember it right now. My buddy has a set on his bike. I’ll post when I figure it out

They looked very similar to those, bud didn't have the bolts.  They had a flat area with a hole for the axle.  To mount them you'd remove your axle nuts, slide them over the axle & tighten the nuts down to hold them in place.  Mostly run on the front forks, but I knew people that had them mounted on the rear axle as well.

Not the ones I'm talking about.  People also ran them on Schwinn bladed forks & sometimes on the rear axles.

They didn't bolt around the forks.
