I`m curious to see if I`m the only one that is not paying attention to the big bucks being shelled out for VG stuff these days, but to the fact that none of it looks like original 90`s VG. Is this the NEW VG stuff that has been a buzz for sometime now ?? None of this new VG stuff that`s flooding ebay has the nice milled look of the original 90`s VG stuff it`s all too round and smooth no cool mill marks or anything. I think that anyone paying bug bucks for this that hasn`t been paying attention is very foolish. I have alot of original VG stuff and I`m really curious to what everyone else thinks about the flood of new VG ?????

I noticed that as well. But I dont own any VG so I couldnt really compare. I thought it was my bad memory.

As a Racer from the 80's 90's and into the new millenium I never saw much of this stuff at all.I am suprised by the rage over it and how much has popped up lately.

Two things to consider:

This is an original non-spur chain tensioner owned by another member on here, which doesn't have VG milled into it. I've never seen them with the VG logo milled in. Also the colours seem off.

Second is I've never seen a VG cable hanger that looks like these:

There is a chance though that someone just found a sh*tload of VG parts somewhere, or seeing that the price of VG bits has skyrocketed in the last week a few people have jumped at the chance to make some money.

well i can tell you that he tool path on the "new" ones is the same as the old.... actually i'm not totally sure about that. they do both have a precision ground finish for the face of the part so if they are copies at least they are paying attention

By the looks its made by knight bike co that is the exact cable hanger they make just vg branded and if you look at the other items its knight bike voice/vg

I cant get a good look at the tool path on a for sure old set but if they were different I'd be very skeptical.

notice the package and the stapling? The label has hairlike fibers in it and the old ones doesnt. wait, i found another picture. the old one has fibers in the labels.
dude, I dont know what to tell you. If hes a repopper, he has it down to the pat. Glad Im out of midschool stuff.

A whole load just hit ebay yesterday and wayyy more today. They are all coming out of Cali. 1vwnut on this forum was the first person selling the new tensioners. He knows where they came from. I bought a pair.

I think someone just found a stash but I am going to take a closer look now because I had a finny feeling too, after ebay got mobbed today. I will be back after some detective work.

If anyone else finds anything else out let us know.

Ok we may have a problem....

Either these new parts that flooded the market are fakes.....or produced later down the road with copied labels and different designs...(the latter is a long shot)

I also feel they are repopped! I was sitting back on this and I probably should of spoken up eartier. I can happily say I am glad I bought my stuff years ago but my opinion may change on that because I may loose interest in all of it quickly.

There's a chance they might be made by Von Giese, I know there was a bit of chatter that he was possibly going to start making parts again last year. These 'breaks' in the font you're pointing out might just be due to ink bleed and such as well.

If it's real, cool. If it's newly produced product by VG themselve cool, although the ebay listings might be seen to be misleading. If it's counterfeit goods then it's a proper issue.

Why do the silver tensioners not have a VG logo?? .... prototypes?

Twizm brought up a point I was just going to bring up. There has been noise for sometime about VG easily being re-made by the old machine shop. It seemed like a secret hand shake or was it a secret hand job deal and it could be done. If that was ever true who knows but it seems like someone jerked off the right person for it to happen.

If someone hit the market with "new" VG parts in this fashion....then I think they did themselves a major disservice and made a huge business mistake. All these parts have been presented as NOS old stock parts. Reproducing a set on tensioners would cost literally $1 if bought in bulk before anodizing and packaging, distribution costs. Auctions were started at $75...then the next day $85....now $65. And a memebr on this forum was selling them for $55. If VG is really trying to hit the scene again....Something went wrong, something went verrrry wrong.

I am going to grab a bag of pop corn. This should get interesting

It's bound to get worse. Folks in Thailand have noticed the crazy prices these old BMX parts are selling for and are busy making copies.
The NOS first gen gyros that are all over ebay is another tell tale sign of what's to come.
I am not singling out a country, but Thailand in particular is well known for duplicating expensive parts. Same happened with car wheels. Rota ( thailand) makes near exact copies of all sorts of expensive wheels.
