Operation: Redline Ready
This build is personal to me....
There is a young man that races 5y/o novice at my local track. He comes to every race lining up at the gate on his little Huffy. Week after week I watch this kid line up. Side by side with modern Redlines, SE's, Intense's, and other hi-end mini's. The thing that gets me though is this little dude comes in second or first place every race. watching his little peddles rotate like a rotary motor is amazing.
So after having this spectacle brought to my attention, and having a mutual friend ask me if my program could help this kid get a more suitable racer I was on board. after considering a Schwinn Pro Stock mini, that was cracked I decided to go all out and build up a Redline someone had donated back in Feb. at the oldschool sow in Joliet.
I'm going to let the kid name the bike so for now this project is called Redline Ready....
Here are some pics of the breakdown....

I have some help coming in on this one.... first off let me thank Charlie(Bike Connection) for cleaning up the headset, and bottom bracket. I will be removing the decals, and polishing up the frame set. Getting it ready for a fresh set of decals, and exchanging the seat for another Redline one.......Stay Tune!
Ask me how you could help a kid get a bike.

Re: Operation: Redline Ready
OK, sorry I didn't get pics of the frame, and hardware before it went off to get polished. But I promise I did take the decals off myself.
Now that is out all I have to do now is work on some small components. So it might get a bit slow around here for awhile because those parts aren't do back untill Monday.
So I guess I will drop some names of sponsors on this project.(you didn't think I could do this all by myself did you?) ![]()
Wired(Kelly) - is sending a full decal set...I went with red/black/over chrome.
check out his work, and tell him special needs special children sent you.
http://wiredbikes.blogspot.com/ http://bmxmuseum.com/forsale/user/30758
Porkchopbmx(Justin) - is sending in a set of Red parts...rat trap pedals, AME Tri mini's, and a Chop Saw Chainring(jealous) Porkchopbmx is one of our main sponsors, and also one of the first. stop by and pick up some goodies... http://porkchopbmx.com/
Bike Connection(Rick & Bob) have been assisting us with in house bike repairs from day one. This is our very first sponsored bike shop....if your local head over and browse the store. http://www.bikeconnection.com/
L.A. Metal Polishing Works, INC.(Alan) are polishing up all things shiny for us. Being one of the newest sponsors to come on board we are very pleased to have them working on this particular project. Take a look at what they can make shiny in your life...and tell them Earl sent you. http://lametalpolishing.com/
Spoke Monkey(Marc) Rad, Cool did I say Awesome! Spoke Monkey is one of the coolest places in bmx if you live in the Rockford, IL area. indoor practicing grate plus more. Being another fresh sponsor of the Special Needs program. I know we are in good hands. Hit up there sight or stop by and visit... http://www.spokemonkey.com/
and don't forget about us
Special Needs Special Children bike program(Earl & Deandre). Take a look at our Facebook page, and see how we do more than just build bikes. also browse our bmxmuseum thread and find out how we got started, and what we have done over the years.

Re: Operation: Redline Ready
Funny Story: someone is calling my sponsors and bad mouthing me and my program.
yup! But I'm glad that my integrity speaks for it's self. It's a shame I have to bring this to light, but not everyone believes in me or what I'm doing ![]()
Now on a lighter note: The polishers have pushed back the date for pick up. which leaves me time to receive parts from Porkchops BMX. The decals are in from Wired Bikes(pics tonight) and I had a chance to rebuild the front hub at Bike Connection. I will be rebuilding the rear as soon as I find it
![]()
Front Redline wheel:

....once the back wheel is done I will clean them up and add tires.

Re: Operation: Redline Ready
Did anyone Say RED!
Justin at Porkchops BMX always have the right parts for that finishing(or beginning) touch! how would all that alum, and chromo look with out the right accents....well OK cool, but even better with a touch of color.

Every bike should have a Chop Saw on it.... ![]()

Re: Operation: Redline Ready
Worth The Wait:
Every bike has that little something that makes it unique...that sets it apart from all the rest that try and look just like it. Something that says quality, style, and dependable. It's all in a name, and the name is on the decals.
Kelly at Wiredbikes.com has given us just that little something this bike needs. A fresh set of Redline decals to call the build home.

Re: Operation: Redline Ready
This is going to be a long night! I have the hardware soaking in a vinegar bath....and I am adding a nice KMC Z chain. I have to find out what I'm going to do with the brake caliber, and find the brake lever. With a Saturday deadline, I am so going to appreciate my sponsoring bike shop! ![]()

...that chain so looks better in person, and i haven't touched it yet ![]()

Re: Operation: Redline Ready
I am back at it...the night wasnt as long as I though, but now I have a case of nerves.
Yup the closer I get to D-Day the more excited I get.
I knew I was going to love my LBS today and I do. I droped off most of the previous shown parts to the owners at Bike Connection bike shop. They said they will do the final build
and all I have to do is get the final pieces there.
Brakes
Wheels
Seat&post
Tires
Chain
Bar Clamps
Chainring Bolts
doesnt seem like much but its everything thats needed to finish this build. Here is what I did today... I found the brake lever and touched it up with some matching paint, and I scuffed the brake caliber to prep it for paint as well.

...after it dries I will two tone the calibers black on the other side, clean up the hardware and done.
I polished up the Z-chain, and cross bar clamps with a polishing wheel and some elbow grease(don't tell my wife I did it in the kitchen) ![]()
Before

After
pics don't do it...trust me! I'm working on wheels tonight, and I should be done until tomorrow.

Good job bro. ![]()
Can't wait to see it finished. ![]()
When you compute the length of time between the "EVENT" and "THE NOSTALGIA FOR THE EVENT", the span seems to be about a year less in every cycle.
Eventually the nostalgia cycles will be so close together that people will not be able to take a step without being nostalgic for the one they just took.
At that point, everything stops. DEATH BY NOSTALGIA. Frank Zappa
