Someone recently schooled me on this, adamant that the sport represented in the Olympics is called supercross, not BMX

UCI Supercross is the series used to qualify for the Olympics, it is still very much bmx.
Saying that it is not bmx is the equivalent of saying that AMA Supercross is not motorcycle racing.
The first few pics are last years London track, the third track pic (5th pic overall) is the current track.

I like the layout but I HATE all the tarmac. BMX is on dirt and that entire 3rd straight rhythm section is covered in black tar. I know they probably want to speed things up but my god, leave some dirt.

The Olympics have really upped the level of performance of pro-bmx. I remember watching interviews with the pros they were really shocked at the insane tracks that were built. Its cool, but it also is discouraging for beginners....very very intimidating....just like Hell Track.

yeah - its pretty insane. our usa team is finishing that track in about 37-38 seconds. i live by the olympic training center in chula vista and we have the 2008 and 2012 olympic track replicas here. I am there for all the main events that take place. like time trials and uci supercross. there is a hall of fame for bmx there too.
