Someone stole my kids bike, but I found it! I hate thieves!!

So, with a business trip tomorrow I've been working late, getting home after dark, but tonight I get home with some daylight to spare. I pull in the driveway and look under my porch to find my 6 year olds bike not there. I ask the wife and she says he never rode it.
Now I have that sick feeling in my stomach. I'm sure you've had it.
The same feeling I got when I was 15 and MY bike was stolen and was riding with my mom for what seemed to be hours.
So.......I hop in the car hoping and praying I find it, but it doesn't look good. It's getting dark and now my kid is crying. I built this bike for him, so it's pretty special to me also.
I drive 3 towns over, and basically go up and down every friggin' street.
Now I have to go home to tell him it's gone. I turn down the street next to mine, and I see a bike in this persons yard........it's his bike!!
I get out of the car and see that the only thing taken off it was the skull valve caps??!
I see a guy getting in a truck and he doesn't say a word, just gets in and drives away. The woman at the house says she saw someone drop it off, knows who it is, but doesn't know where they live. Her kids are in the doorway saying something, but she ushers them inside and then she goes in. Now I'm wishing this POS would show his face so I can punch him in the head. I take the bike, throw it on the bike rack and drive home. It was only about 5 blocks from my house!!
I go back home and notice that the outside door was open to my basement where I have my other bikes. They tried to get in as well.
Well, I filed a report anyway, and the cops are now questioning the woman whos lawn the bike was dropped off on.
All is good now. Sorry for the rant, but I guess the motto is: never give up, you might find it again winkcool

well its funny that lady couldn't defend herself because you know its yours for sure due to the vector decals.  there only one tricycle in the whole state area that has vector decals on it.  Karma will get them and it will.

Re: Someone stole my kids bike, but I found it! I hate thieves!!

That's a feeling I know all too well. It got so bad for us as kids that we just learned not to get attached to our bikes - how sad is that? Eleven years old and already jaded like that.

Plus to have someone try to break in? That would have me up at night. I'd never wanna leave my house for fear of people robbing me blind. People can really suck when they want to. hmm

Glad you got the trike back, hope this comes with some closure in the form of a bust.

I just found my Warpig that was stolen almost 3 years ago. Thanks to a member on this site that had bought it just a month ago. It goes to show never give up looking for the items that people have taken from you. You never know where they might turn up........Thieves = Losers

just keep an eye out now for the little ahole cruising the hood with those valve caps on his bike, And i GUARANTEE he will be that stupid to do it. Then, get another kid to punch him in the face.

I'm sorry tO hear that, but glad you got it back.

When i was 15 my prized PK Ripper was stolen. I found it 13 years later. A 11 year old kid was riding it. I told him it used to be mine but I let him keep it. Turns out his uncle (my friend years ago) gave it to him. Go figure neutral

Time for revenge. Let's TP and egg the house, that's what I would do.... Maybe even a little simulation of a power outage. Most electrical panels don't have locks on the main panel covers. I know from experience being an electrician, all you have to do is open the main cover and either pull the meter straight out of the socket if it's not locked, or pull the main breaker out and disregard it. No harm necessary. big_smile

I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy. smile

Re: Someone stole my kids bike, but I found it! I hate thieves!!

To be fair, the lady of the house may have been being honest. Sometimes a person will jack a bike, take what they want off of it or just get bored with it, and ditch it somewhere to let someone else take the blame.

I've seen it happen on car forums before with stolen cars. Guy jacks the car, joyrides, rips out the competition stereo system and headunit, and leaves the car in someone's driveway. Ballsy but acts as a handy misdirection, especially if the cops find the car before the resident gets home. Lovely getting a visit at work from the cops and having to explain a stolen car sitting in your driveway.

Are you sure it's not paulie D. and the situation messing around with you? J/K

Either way, whoever it is, make abait bike bike like someone else said. Also, a word of advice, shoot to kill. You don't know how many cases I have seen where a robber robs a house and the owner shoots them but does not klll them and some how the robbers win a settlement in court.... Figure that out.

ALWAYS LOCK YOUR BIKES

I had all my bikes stolen from me back in the day. I was stupid and made dumb-ass mistakes.

Nowadays I lock my bike everywhere I ride it and keep the bikes in the living room.
