How did you start collecting old school bmx?
For me it started when I was 11 when I received a 77 webco in 1984. That's what started it all, I really started collecting in the early 90s when the stuff I love like anything anno was on the back shelfs with an inch of dust on them. I bought everything I could for pennies on the dollar. I remember walking out of Conway bikes in Orlando holding a box full of hatta alloy headsets about six stems like torker redline brute tufneck all for about 50 dollars . Man those were the days

Re: How did you start collecting old school bmx?
i started collecting bikes about 6 years ago when my friend had brought over a couple bikes wanting to sell them to me, and i started remembering all the bikes I had when I was a teen, and how much fun it was building and riding my bikes, then i started to look on ebay and craigslist. and now im addicted , ive got a few projects going , and when looking for parts for my projects I always run into another bike or frame and try to get it for a deal,

Re: How did you start collecting old school bmx?
My first real BMX bike was a Diamond Back Super Viper when I was a kid. My first real race BMX bike was a Haro Group 1 RS1 with custom built wheels. After I turned 18, BMX was in the rear view mirror and mountain biking began, then a 12 year road cycling run which was totally awesome. I've been out of road cycling for 6 years now and BMX has come back for me the day I logged on to BMX Museum. I've built 5 bikes in 17 months and the 6th bike is almost done. I only build new school bikes, but I still love to look at the bikes I grew up on. I have no desire to own an old school bike at this point. To me they bring back great memories, but have no use for riding, so I dont see myself ever buying or building one. If I ever do, it would be a Diamond Back Formula 1. Even though I had a Harry Leary Turbo back in the early 80's, I first wanted the Formula 1............I dont know how many people ride the old school bikes, but I cant see myself riding a 18.5 TT bike anytime soon. Maybe a 24..........

When I was 11 or 12 my dad took me to a garage sale. I bought an old mongoose for 10 and my dad fixed it up. Rode the thing every day. I'm 16 now and collect mostly Dyno and GT stuff ![]()

I was telling my son about my pink bike, and googled looking for pictures to show him.
Found this site and decided to restore what I had left.

Re: How did you start collecting old school bmx?
I was leaving my neighborhood about 2 years and found this Mongoose Expert in the trash. Against my wife's wishes, I threw it in the back and in a couple weeks I replaced all the soft goods with Porkchop parts and rode it for a while. Then I put it on eBay after I had my fun and got $350. I thought it was a fun way to make money. Now, I have 12 complete race bikes between '79-'84.
I don't have a picture before but here's the after.
I have a bunch of good old school stuff for sale in the beta section, check it out!

Re: How did you start collecting old school bmx?
It was 2002, I was in the lunchroom with a coworker and the topic of OS BMX came up. The first bike that came out of both of our mouths was: PK RIPPER--not Hutch
and we both got our feet wet by hitting up the local garage sales, etc. But my coworker was kinda tepid about it, however, i wasn't. I searched Ebay religiously for my 2 holy grails: Skyway TA and PK Ripper. We both found mid school PKs but I wasn't satisfied with it...I sold that because it's just not the real deal. I found an '84 TA in '06 off some guy who sold the f & f to me for $250...he needed quick cash. I found my PK loop a little over a year ago....But I'm not searching anymore. I don't got the space, time or money for it anymore. Even when I see good deals on this site, I no longer get excited or pull the trigger to buy....It's fun though.

Re: How did you start collecting old school bmx?
I was big into BMX in the early eighties. Fast forward to 2008,
and I find this in the trash across the street. It was my neighbors
bike from bitd. He had long since moved.
I sold that (some would argue foolishly
). That funded my desire for a
Skyway like I had bitd (and a few more projects). Chrome. Mmmmmm.
I've been hooked all over again.

Re: How did you start collecting old school bmx?
It started out for me when I asked my parents to get me a BMX bike for Christmas. I ended up getting this tank. I hated riding it and soon gave it up for MTB. Then, about two years ago my buddy asks me if I want to go riding with him. He said I could ride one of his bikes. The bike I ended up riding was a Skyway Streetbeat. I was amazed at how easy it was to ride. He said that that was the difference between a good bike and a bad bike. First bike I bought to get back into BMX was a Haro Master. Haven't looked back. I love riding.

Re: How did you start collecting old school bmx?
It all started in December 2010, I found this clearing out a garage at work

That turned into this
An amacco freestyle pro.
From that day in December I have been hooked.
I now own a silverstreak, a torker, an ammaco and I'm working on a burner.
I do like to ride my bikes but I also think they are things of beauty and need to be looked at,
And need to be preserved so that kids in the future can see what cool shit we had.......

Re: How did you start collecting old school bmx?
Hmm, well I started riding in 1969, and havent looked back..
As a kid, I usually only had 1-2 bikes at a time, but was constantly trading parts/frames.
it seems at that time, that most frames were pretty close to equal value..I traded my Nomura for a Slyway T/A..
Seemed like a great deal at the time, and I did enjoy riding the chromo skyway ALOTmore than the Aluminum frame.
I did move from Idaho in the mid 90's and was down to only 5 bikes..
Then, while working at a website for someone else downtown..I decided to start my own..
That plus the $50 a month to park downtown? and then I found EBAY!!!
So I started buying bikes, then Craigslist brought even more...
Now I have over 500 bikes (I count frames as a bike too) over 100 complete bikes..
Thanks to all for sharing my Passion/Madness/hobby..

Re: How did you start collecting old school bmx?
My sister was getting stuff together for a garage sale so I went down stairs and I got my box of BMX stuff I had left over. 2nd gen box cranks, Kasi Aero, and pretty much my entire Profile except the f/f set and and few other tidbits. I didn't know what to ask for the whole box so I went to ebay.
The box didn't go to my sisters and I put my cranks up 4 auction-got a lot of offers and they ended up around $800 I think but the guy didn't pay up. I was kind of fine with that as while the auction was going I found this website and found myself wishing I didn't put up my crankset...got to keep them but sold a few pieces. Rest is history
