Hydrogen Peroxide to whiten up SKYWAYS?
I saw a post on using Hydrogen peroxide to whiten plastic pedals and it seemed to work pretty well. So, I have some white SKYWAY pro brake pads that aren't too bad, but I'd like to whiten them up just a bit. Since they're pretty hard rubber, would it be safe to try it without screwing them up? Any Chemists among us?
Need: SKYWAY 9/16 right side pedal.

Bleach may work, but even better, reverse the chemical reaction that is causing the color change. I have been amazed by the years I have talken off by using retr0bright. http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/

Re: Hydrogen Peroxide to whiten up SKYWAYS?
I can tell you that straight up Hydrogen Peroxide from walmart whitens mags better than anything else.
These two mags were bleached and they came out tan colored, they were almost brown to begin with.
I left them outside exposed to sun light for about 8 hours and the mag came out snow white.
The camera does not do justice to how white the mag is. I am doing the other one tomorrow.

Re: Hydrogen Peroxide to whiten up SKYWAYS?
Thanks. I used the arrow root recipe retrobrite on a set of realy poor Tuff II`s with rear coaster and alloy front hub. The English weather was typicaly dull so I bought a 24" UV strip light and put it about 10/12 inches above the wheels. Each side had about 3 days with excellent results, no corrosion to the metals and no need to cover them with nasty oil.
Before.
During.
After.
Thanks again.

Just found my next project! Awesome results with the peroxide. Was going to try a media blast but this is more within my realm.
By the end of the winter it will look like I was sun soaked with hydrogen peroxide too! ![]()

good resto info. smells like it should be a sticky. cheap 'n' cheerful's mags look sick!
"First of all Rat, you never let on how much you like a girl. "Oh, Debbie. Hi." Two, you always call the shots. "Kiss me. You won't regret it." Now three, act like wherever you are, that's the place to be. "Isn't this great?" Four, when ordering food, you find out what she wants, then order for the both of you. It's a classy move. "Now, the lady will have the linguini and white clam sauce, and a Coke with no ice." And five, now this is the most important, Rat. When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV."

Re: Hydrogen Peroxide to whiten up SKYWAYS?
Hydrogen Peroxyde same as...
Agua Oxigenada 100 volumen (30% H. peroxyde)
works well on Yellowed brake pads
Yellowed White Tires with logo (logo is 100% perfect after whitening)
on gray plastic too
i use a Spray head, directly on the bottle
under sun, Spray on the part....wait until sun dry & spray again
in 30 mins had all white again![]()
my english is greatt, right?![]()

Re: Hydrogen Peroxide to whiten up SKYWAYS?
Your English is better than mine! I found it dryed even at 4 degrees C, so reppplied it morning and evening. One mix using a 200ml bottle of peroxide lasted both wheels about three days on one side (another mix on the other side). The dry mix leaves a chalky residue of I presume the arrow root, you could clean this off but it seems to blend in with the next coat.
