87 Detour that i powder coated & i think i nailed it
Since falling on hard times ive been trying to sell my whole powder coating setup. My uncle has had it over his house and trying to get it sold from his autobody shop, but last night he said he needed the room and droped it back at my house. So i had a 87 Dyno that has been siting in my garage and had nothing better so i said what the hell i might as well give it some life. Ive powder coated my Auburn Dayglow pink and a 94 Dyno Air yellow , but its a huge pain because it has to be hanging perfect in the oven. Sometimes the powder doesent cover complete cause there isnt enough juice going the frame.
This time i nailed it because i used two ground boxes and gave the frame alot more juice running through it. The process was easy the powder clinged perfect to the frame and it bounded even. You will see in the pics that i leave the bearing cups in the frame that is to have metal on the frame to hook the ground wires to and comes in handy for the oven process. I think this Detour came out great and its not a color Detour you see often at all.
Iam gona have to think long and hard about geting rid of this powder coating setup. Ive made alot of mistakes in my life and i dont this one to go into that big pile of $crew-ups. I never try selling powder coating because iam a million miles away from C4-labs and i see all the stuff lou went through so thats why i only powder local or for my own projects. Please dont bash me to death on these pics thanks
BEFORE EVER STARTING
TRYING TO SEE WHAT ROOM TO WORK WITH IN THE OVEN AND THE BEST WAY TO BAKE
IN THE PROCESS OF STRIPING

DROPS CAME GREAT WITHOUT ANY GRAIN LIKE FINISH
NOW ADD SOME SPARE DECALS THAT I HAD FROM ULTRAHIVE

TIME TO LOG OFF AND GO CLEAN UP THE MESS OR MY WIFES GONA KILL ME WHEN SHE GETS OFF OF WORK ![]()
Tonight I Powder Coated the bars and post then smacked some decals. the bars and post came great with no clumping and they are all smoth with no grit like feeling , and i didnt go thick on the lower end of the post, so it could slide in the frame without the powder geting teared up. here is a new pic.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I now see what you have to go through to powder coat a frame and fork.

Re: 87 Detour that i powder coated & i think i nailed it
Thanks alot guys and i was shocked with yhat pro compe its cool.
The powder didnt go on thick at all. In the past i wouldnt have enough curent going through the frame that would cause the powder to go on thicker in some areas because there was more curent on one side of the frame, and that sucked because i had to strip the whole frame and start all over again. Now that i had two ground wires on this frame the powder went on easy and even all over the whole frame, so there was no build up in one area and went smooth all around.

Sweet Tony! If you advertised to powder for more people you could make a lot of extra coin! Being a bike guy yourself you put more heart and soul into your work than the big hurry up and blow them out the door shops. That pink Auburn you did was a show stopper!Post an ad on Craigslist and I am sure you will drum up some business.

What kind of gun are you using? Even the low end Eastwood gun puts out more than enough "juice" to coat a frame easily.
Looking for a Baby Blue NOS S&M Beringer frame!!

for frames i use the Hyper smooth but i dont have a replacment fuse so i ran a ground from my eastwood gun and that is used for my small parts and the other ground box was from a chicago electric. and i know they all have juice but running two grounds the powder clinged better, but this isnt my profesion just something i do to kill time. and your right about the eastwood gun having enough juice , it could have been i just need to give the ground clip a good cleaning cause there are signs of corrosion. so thanks for the help and ideas ,![]()
