90 GT Pro Series survivor detailing thread...
I've had it since new (I was 14) and it's time to give it some love...I still ride it with the wife quite frequently and still LOVE it. The guys in my Museum thread convinced me to keep it all original and just detail it rather than full resto...so here is my detailing thread...
(museum thread with a TON of pics)
http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=424360
If it wasn't for a few months in the shed back in the day the wheels would be in great shape...They have some flaking but will still clean up well...It went in the shed because the garage was full (with my car) but as soon as I saw how it was looking I pulled it out and put it back in the garage...
The only spot for it was up! It was out of the way - except for when the car was out of the garage - then it was the perfect forehead height! lol
Anyway it's all apart now and I started to clean it up. The sproket and crank bolts came up real nice with just a cleaning...still have to take a wire brush to clean the threads and inside the allen bolt hole and I'll polish the sproket but so far so good...
Here is a close up of the rim... ![]()
(the big mark is dirt not rust)
The fork has NO slop and is perfect so I will leave that assembled while I clean/polish
My diy repair rig

The teeth were nasty - so was the chain
Also notice in this pic the Pitbull cam - I'm missing the square spacer that rides along the brake frame - anyone have any idea on where to get one - or something I could fab easily as a replacement? The brakes work fine but tend to tilt to one side
Parts

Those sealed superlace hubs are still awesome...I remember spinning them back in the day and being mesmorized at how long it would take for them to stop! They are still the same today! Crazy
I got new tubes and tires for it - everything else is all original!
Chain soaking
Just a quick cleaning of these parts and you can see how well they cleaned up...
That's it for now...started late today but should be able to make good progress tomorrow...I'm aiming to clean the rims and get the tires mounted along with polishing the cranks...If it's not raining again I'll get all the big parts outside for a wash before thorough cleaning/polishing....
Stay tuned...

Very nice!!! I also had a 90 xxl back then. I loved that frame and raced it from 1990 to 1996.still my fave!!! Cant wait to see how yours turns out. The graphics on the 90 gt race bikes were the best in my opinion

Sweet thanks psychoduddycycles and thanks everyone for the comments. The spokes are coming out awesome...I'll post more pics in a few hours...
ALso, the L pedal is killing me - I can't get it off...making a leverage rig/breaker bar now hopefully that helps me get it off but I think I'm going to break the wrench! lol
(yes it's been soaking in PB blaster all night)

Re: 90 GT Pro Series survivor detailing thread...
Well my rig didn't work - not cause it wasn't a good rig because I rounded off TWO wrenches in the process...man those pedals are tough! lol. I would try heat but it will destroy that inner plastic seal...Any other suggestions?

lol. I'm not new to mechanics and working on things - never came across a bolt I couldn't get off but I think I might have to...we'll see!
Ok on to working on other stuff for now!

Re: 90 GT Pro Series survivor detailing thread...
Made some progress...everything has been cleaned/degreased. I used GUNK on the sprockets/chains and the rear dropouts. Diluted simple green with detergent on everything else.
Front rim is done. Brillo on the spokes - I'll give the lip a quick polish before I mount the tire then final clean/polish the rest when I get the tire mounted...

Just cleaned - looking awesome already...
Starting to polish the cranks...wetsand/buff/polish
Close up - BEFORE
After
QUESTION - What's everyone recommend with regards to the decals? I planned on trimming all the sections that are peeling - YAH or NAH?
