Re: The Day Glo Thread
Pic of my dayglo bikes. I painted the UN-assembled set myself and had a friend clear it in a nice and tough poly urethane. The built bike is powder.
shown at different angles and lighting to show the schizophrenic nature of the painted bike.. very close to the powdered bike in one pic and then in another= completely different.

It's fun to see the same clapped out 20$ part posted at the same price, for the 30th time. At what point will you just give it to someone who might use it?

Re: The Day Glo Thread
Negative. From the bottom up== and there will be an addition to my own PFT build thread one of these days- but the bike was originally painted when i got it. THe paint job was probably 6/10. There were spots where the clear was absolutely not present.. and the color varied a lot throughout the bike. I stripped it with klean strip gel and then media blasted it. I use an "auto grade" spray primer. I then sprayed a florescent white base coat on which is a color used to make bright colors really pop. It is like "super white". I then used this color here- (pictured). If you spray this light- it will look just like the powder bike. A little more and it brings up some really cool/mellow flip-floppyness that some feel is more desirable. I made the mistake of clearing it with some lacquer clear. Let it cure- built the bike and then found out that lacquer clear is just not durable enough. My bike stand clamp was imprinted into the toptube.
After I sanded that mess out, I topped the whole bike again with white and started over. Kinda pissed because the paint was perfect the first time and the second time around I had a couple of small flaws...
anyway- bike is pretty dialed. It will be a mag bike and I may have it mostly built tomorrow. Unfortunately, I do not have a free wheel for it...
I will say that this color is super weird. At first glance- it is absolutely nuclear pink. "SHOCKING" pink.. but then the more you look at it, it literally goes red, or orange. I think your eyes literally adjust to this color because if you walk away and then come back-- it is pink again and then goes to red. It goes red immediately when next to freestyle barbie in the background..
but I assure you- the bike is pink as pink can be when it is on its own..

Loving this thread - great idea! I will build a day glo pink GT someday too. Until then, this thread needs a little green. ![]()

Re: The Day Glo Thread
nice pics demon. looks like the mysterious redish bars actually match some stuff Chip powdered thicker. i said all along its just a matter of application. the slightest bit of extra product really make a huge differance expically in pictures.

Re: The Day Glo Thread
yup, some of the stuff chip did turned out dark. why exactly i do not know. seems to just be applied thicker but there may be a different reason? im not sure he even realizes i have stuff he did that matches his bars.

Re: The Day Glo Thread
Some sweet stuff in here. Im digging that Tiger Orange.
I do plan on having a well respected member here powder it the wrong dayglo pink color before I install some 87 PFT team model decals on it.
I will call it NOS refinished so I can charge the big bucks too.
