1987 General Osborn Pro
1987 General Osborn Pro
1987 General RL Osborn Pro Freestyle BMX BIKE RL-20II
Hi everyone! So I rode professional freestyle back when i was 13-18 years old. In 1987 I had one of the first frames RL Osborn released as one of my sponsors was General and Peregrine (I still have my jersey). So I tricked out my bike from the year 1987-1990 until I stopped riding and went off to college. My little brother took over my bike for a few years and unfortunately took the 100psi tires off the original concave ACS RL Edge rims so I replaced with a set of white kenda tires. My bike still has some great rare vintage parts from the 80's still on it; Haro wrap around flip up forks, General finger pad grip seat, Diacomp locking brake set, Hutch seat clamp, Tioga snake seat post, Haro knee saver bars, RL Osborn designed concave ACS RL Edge rims and hubs, Peregrine 3 piece cranks and Compact Disc sprocket, Odyssey rotor and cables, etc.

Nice Ride! Thanks for sharing. Curious to know where you were riding while sponsored by General. Also curious if you had any experience with any of the earlier General models or if you went straight to the top of the General chain with the OP. Thanks for sharing ![]()

Is that rust or just bad lighting? Nice ride regardless.

Re: 1987 General Osborn Pro
I was much younger when i rode then most the other guys. being 13-17 my mom did not let me travel much. I did shows along the west coast. Seattle, Portland, Southern California.
dts123, yeah that's rust on the bars. I have not cleaned it for 22 years! If I keep it, I may clean it up and buy the new sticker set. But I was considering selling it and if so, I figured someone would like the project...

Re: 1987 General Osborn Pro
Perhaps I made a mistake from my memory. But I thought I had perigrine 48's on my osborn Pro, but after re-reading this old RL ad, I do have the concave rim he designed for the 100psi tires, does that mean I have the ACS rims and hubs? How can I tell for sure? What was that model called?

Re: 1987 General Osborn Pro
Like I said, I also had the original 100psi Osborn ACS tires too, but my brother took them off and replaced them with the white Kenda's back when I left for College...
So above are a bunch of photos. I wiped the rims clean in a few spots to show that was grease and dirt, not rust on them. But as you can see, the bike has been hanging in the garage for 22 years and could really use a scrub down with some simple green and chrome polish!!

Re: 1987 General Osborn Pro
So does any one know how to spot the markings of the ACS concave rim model?

Re: 1987 General Osborn Pro
Sad day, but great for the new owner of my bike and jersey. I sold the package for $800 and hope to see photos of it restored one day as a bike of his on this website... Good bye General! Enjoy your new home...

The ACS RL Edge rims were made by Weinmann. The set I have and the ones I just sold had the RL Edge markings on them. Without the logo they may be prior to RL's involvement or after. Not 100% sure.

Would love to find an old Mad Dog, Holmes and Platform Dirt Bike. I'd like some 1st Gen Slams. I also need to find some stickers for an HAF and an early Challenger. Is anyone doing repops?
