Re: pad or not to pad

I throw a TT pad on whatever bike I am riding.  I just grew up with them.  Not for flat bikes though.

Re: pad or not to pad

I'm old school as well and I say "yes". Remember the days of your chain popping andyour knee meeting the gooseneck? Good times!!! So yeah, my bikes are padded.

That's just like, your opinion, man.

Re: pad or not to pad

I am a non pad guy, but that's just me. I think pads can take away from the overall look of a bike i.e. the lines and geometry, but again that's just my opinion.

All my neighborhood friends threw away the pads too.

The only" BMX" bike I have with no pads is a 90 Auburn.   I like this bike plain and simple.

Yes for pads. An OS bike looks naked without them. They would look stupid on anything else but a big yes for OS BMX bikes. They were required on race bikes in the ABA, BITD.

i'm guessing a lot of kids chucked them also, prolly the reason some of these OS padsets now cost more then the frames they go on.

Funny we are talking bout pads..
I spoke with another member this past Friday about pads and what some sets go for.
He referred to pads as "soft goods".....that can demand top dollar these days

OG Hutch Pads, Profile Pads, Natty Pro PAds.
I just bought a set of OG Natty Pads.....and they were not cheap.

Reflectors yes, pads no. All racers used pads, it was in the rules for old school racers.

Back in my day, the racers or competiters had the balls. Those who were on the sidelines and chucced their pads just wanted a pair like we had. big_smile Those were the weenie's..........

Naaaaaaa......cool was holding up a 4 foot trophy by lining up aginst others to see who was the best. Knowing that 20 or 30 other guys wanted to win and beating them down by puting your balls on the line agianst theirs was cool. Its all about competition, anyone can be a legend in their own minds, but you dont know for sure until you go head to head.Like anything else in life, you dont know what you are until you get into the game and see what your made of. Anything else is just a cheerleader...........big_smile

Dude.....I know man! lol Its just fun you know! lol big_smile

The funny thing about racers is that most of us wanted to be freestyler's! lol And....many of those dudes wanted to be at the track.......vice versa I guess! lol We always want to be something else.......guess thats just how it works.

we all raced BITD, some just had mommy and daddy sign them up like a little league and take them to tracks with a bunch of dorks and adults. others just raced through the neighborhoods cuttin' corners over people's lawns or racing on dirt trails through wooded areas. we didn't wear helmets or use pads. we just chose to ride with cigarettes, cans of beer, feeling a tit or 2 in the bushes and no adults.
