Rare Kuwahara find (not the elusive neon)
Picked this bike up yesterday. I believe this to be a KYZ. The serial number identifies it as being built by Tange in December 1982. Now what makes this rare is the color. The chrome has a gold tinge to it, making this only the second bike like this seen in the Museum. The first can be found here http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=126650 The color may have been a specific feature only available in Canada. Would love to have this confirmed.
I purchased this bike from the original owner, and interestingly, he purchased it at the same bike shop in Red Deer, AB where I purchased my DB Pro just months apart BITD
The owner also told me his mom recently upgraded the tires and brake cable ![]()
One thing I am curious about is the branding on the bars and stem. Does anyone have additional information on WIN, or WIN KUSUKI? The parts are Japanese made. Was the name an entry level brand made by a larger company? Also, any information about the bike would be much appreciated.

WIN supplied those parts for Kuwahara back then... standard parts for that era. Which bike shop was it?

Sports World located across the library beside the RCMP station. Did you grow up in Red Deer as well?

Nice pick-up!
You know, Roy Munson has two chances to win this tournament now...slim and none...and slim may have just left town.

Wonder what the finish was called BITD. Would really like to find someone with some knowledge on this finish, and whether it was for Canada only.

I know the stem is stamped WIN, which is kind of cool, as the 82 was Tange made ET was not.

I see - that is cool.
I am still debating with what to do with this find. Maybe restore, maybe part out....

Re: Rare Kuwahara find (not the elusive neon)
I am all for parting out, but this one is probably better kept in tact.

Re: Rare Kuwahara find (not the elusive neon)
I remember the gold kuwaharas in red deer. Do you remember when sports world opened the bmx area and the rows of chrome bikes? Cool score.
I shopped at Glenn's more, lots more freestyle parts.
All i want to buy is a cyclecraft made BLOCK.

Re: Rare Kuwahara find (not the elusive neon)
I spent many hours in that shop looking over the rows of BMX bikes, Glenn's too. I particularly remember the English gentleman at Sports World who was the bike mechanic. He always took the time to share a maintenance tip or two.

Re: Rare Kuwahara find (not the elusive neon)
I too remember the gold Kuwaharas. I was told back then that they were a Canada only thing. If memory serves my friend bought one at caps bike shop in the greater Vancouver BC area. (delta...maybe surrey) I believe I remember them saying it was a small limited batch they did for Canada and that caps had got their hands on some...
Ok just went and did a quick google search, it was Caps.

That seems to corroborate the story about the color. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Rare Kuwahara find (not the elusive neon)
It looks as though it may not have been a Canada only color if they were offered in the Dominican. I do appreciate getting this information as it helps set the record straight. Maybe they were not offered in the US?
