1967 Schwinn Stingray

Roots BMX

December 1966 build date, Coppertone color.-Thankfully, I was able to snag this early Stingray BMX roots survivor mostly intact before someone else grabbed it for a Stingray restore. I added Lester mags for rideability.
-Sticker on head tube says "Advanced Trickery Custom BMX", which was a bike shop in Glenview, IL, that was considered to be a "holy grail" of bike shops (see comments for more info).-Thanks.

Re: 1967 Schwinn Stingray

Thanks guys.

The vibe of a bike like this is better to me than some of my bikes that cost a ton more. I just can't place enough importance on authentic soul. This one moved right up to a top position in my collection. I have a period yellow oval # plate for it, and I might put on some Lesters to support my fat adult butt riding it. It actually rides surprisingly good.

Re: 1967 Schwinn Stingray

Installed Lesters today and some steel rat trap Schwinn pedals to replace the totally worn out plastic ones. cool

Re: 1967 Schwinn Stingray

ADVANCED TRICKERY!!! What an unbleiveably cool sticker! Alot of Northern California guys mention Hank & Frank Bicycles being the bomb there but if you grew up in the NW suburbs of Chicago - ADVANCED TRICKERY, now that was the Holy Grail of bike shops. I have a 1980 Goose (restored 12 years ago) that was purchased from that shop. (see pic) The cardboard cutout was from the framebox. Cost me 58.12 back in 1980. Alot of paper deliveries for that frame! I will add that to my bikes latrer on this summer. I haven't had a chance to photograph many bikes yet. I may have to start and advanced Trickery thread to see if anyone has more info on it. Dont get rid of that sticker! If you remove it, do so carefully and cherish it. Way Cool Bro!  cool

Re: 1967 Schwinn Stingray

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing! I knew someone had to had to have info on Advanced Trickery!

Cool that the sticker is "local" (or close to it). The sticker isn't going anywhere. I'm not a survivor killer. This bike won't ever change now, and will always be inside (unless riding it). Thanks again for the insight.

Re: 1967 Schwinn Stingray

Your survivor appreciation is way cool & not being that far north from Glenview its awesome that you ended up with this bike! Also, the coppertone color is rare & bitchin' - Since you are not that far north, if you ever see any advanced trickery stickers or the like buy'em up or let me know! I would love to have one on my mongoose. I may try to make a waterslide decal on my PC since I have the logo artwork. Also, the Bike in my avatar is the advanced trickery goose frame - i will post it in my bikes later on this year.

Re: 1967 Schwinn Stingray

Now that I know what it is, I'll always have my eyes open for the AT stickers or anything else from them. Looking forward to seeing your bikes. A repro decal would be killer, if you make any let me know, I wouldn't mind having some for my plates or whatever.

Re: 1967 Schwinn Stingray

Just found out more about Advanced Trickery. They were a mongoose and redline distributor. There was another shop up in Ontario, Canada as well as Glenview. Another member on the site "smittynorth" and his buddy had them as a sponsor bake in the old days of BMX racing. I bought a sticker similar to yours from him. If possible I will try to reproduce, just not sure how yet.
