Redline 401's
Redline 401's....What's the most you have paid for them? What style? Single pinch, double? I look at prices for them and they always seem outragous. I want to see who is actually buying these!

Re: Redline 401's
Pricing on them are rediculous. They are everywhere, yet they still bring in the cash.
Diablo's are priced right...
I don't think they should get over $400 ever! Unless a techmatic comes with it.
Single pinch, full wrap, double dimple seems to be the most sought after, still, anything over $400, is too much IMHO.
Single pinch, half wraps are being posted for full wrap prices lately, which doesn't make sense to me, but maybe nobody know the diff.
In the end, it's all about what someone is willing to pay!
Seems that this year a lot of new people have got into the hobby, and are paying rediculous prices, driving prices up. Especially those overseas. They'll pay more almost always.
Most of my stuff will be for sale soon!

Re: Redline 401's
The new double pinch flights have the same look, and are just as good, but they're not old school. They are not scarce and can be had for $100 all day anyday. People pay more for the original 401's because they're from the 80's - a quintessential piece for a true 80's build.
The full wraps sell for 300-700 depending on what else is included and overall condition. No one wants to pay over $400 for them lately though :p

IMO no one should ever pay over $400 for them. It's crazy that people do sometimes.

Re: Redline 401's
Yeah I wish I could go back in time and get mine again. I paid $100 for the ones I used to race on and they were still in great condition until my stupid ass niece gave my entire race bike away three years ago. I have been working on rebuilding it and it's going to unfortunately cost me a fortune...but hey my sister gave me $100 to make up for it
Three years later and i'm still furious over it!!!!! I want to hit her upside the head with that stupid $100 bill!

Sheesh, maybe you should have titled your thread Flight Cranks then. Being that's kind of the generic term used for Red-Line cranks.
Like mentioned by Five, people list Single pinch, half wraps at 401 prices. That being said, not everybody knows about the different type/styles through the years and that's why you see crazy prices sometimes. People are asking too much for the wrong crank. Some people even pay the price not knowing.
Carry on.

Re: Redline 401's
I've been trying to find some 180mm 401 arms lately since I don't want to pay premium for arms, a crappy worn out sprocket and a looseball BB. I too think the 401's have been getting too much as well as the single pinch half wraps. Prices on those of late are getting silly. I'll just buy some old Cook Bros instead.

If people are willing to pay that much for single pinch halfwraps,I got a set in really good condition with a era correct flight sprocket, original hex wrenchs and the manual that came with them for sale.

Re: Redline 401's
Does anyone remember how much these crank cost BITD new? They were $149.99 mail order in 1982. More than most frame and fork sets. A complete redline MX-II was $279. These were not that common and a $300 to $400 price tag for a set of these 30 years later, especially in good shape is very fair in my opinion. I can remember very few sets on a race bike on the track back then. A set of Super Maxy cranks were $29.99, These were high end luxury parts!

Re: Redline 401's
i bought a set for my proline-II back in 1983 and i'm pretty sure they were over $300au, and that was the tange looseball bb, not the tech. my frame and fork was $225au in early 1982. so to pay around $400au nowadays for them isn't really a big deal, especially for the nice ones. i paid more than $400 for these but the box was the clincher ![]()

Re: Redline 401's
I agree. At $400-$500, 401's seem reasonable by today's standards. That's only about 2.5 to 3.5 times the MSRP. When you consider items like MX1000's, Haro # plates, Kashmax Aero and Shotgun 2 seats (just to name a few) go for 8 to 10 times their MSRP, 401's are a steal.

Re: Redline 401's
i have 2 sets of full wraps and one set of half wrap , and post office just lost a set of full wraps like 2 weeks ago on me , as for prices thats my business but i wish i wouldve stocked up back when they were cheap. as for half wraps alot of people believe the half wraps are going to be worth more than full wraps , due to the time period of production . redline built alot of full wraps but when half wraps came out they built them for less years and bmx and freestyle was fading out so they were not producing as many sets of cranks every year
i'm sick of people lowballing and changing their mind after the details of item were given then asking for money off or refund . now all items are sold as is no returns ask all questions before dibbing .

Re: Redline 401's
How many of these cranks sets do we all believe were ever built? I'll bet there were about 10 to 15 thousand racers and freestyle rider total when these were built. Few neighborhood knock around bikes had them. About 1% of riders had them. At nationals you would have seen more, but at the average single points, local races, you rarely ever saw them. 1000 to 1500 ever built?
In my opinion, the half wraps may be more rare but that does not mean they will be more valuable some day. Supply and demand. I don't think demand for them will ever be as high as what happened with the cheaper 400's. Rarity does not always equal value. I have a ton of rare parts no one wants!

Re: Redline 401's
Ive found the prices seem to fluctuate greatly. Personally, I would never pay crazy prices for them. I normally pick them up when they show up for $225-$275. And yes, they DO show up at those prices (but don't last long.) I won't waste my breath arguing what they are actually worth, because that's all about demand. I've never understood why Redline stuff, in general, commands so much money. But that's just me. I guess it's worth what people are willing to pay. Why is an RL-20 II F&F worth $1500-$2000 when an equivalent Haro Master sells for $400-$500 for a F&F? Just demand. The Redline is harder to find, yes. But they are both quality framesets. Both made in Taiwan. Both have a following. Eh, whatever. . .
I don't believe in holding feedback for ransom. If you buy something from me, I'll leave you feedback when you buy. If I buy from you, I expect the same. If you wait for me (as a buyer) to leave you feedback first, before you leave mine, you won't get any.
