Re: HELP SAVE THE SURVIVORS!!!

I have a really, really hard time selling my bikes but when it comes to the chopping block, I'm more inclined to lose the refinished ones first. My '80 JMC Long was sprayed white and my '82 sticktail Cr-MO quadangle was sprayed black, those are the only ones I've had to refinish. I still look at them like bastards but they ain't too hard on the eyes.

I have a bunch of good old school stuff for sale in the beta section, check it out!

Re: HELP SAVE THE SURVIVORS!!!

I have had complete survivors that I wouldn't be able sell for any more than 50 dollars, so
I part, make 250 and donate the frame and fork to someone. You do the math...

Re: HELP SAVE THE SURVIVORS!!!

Something else about Survivors............Having a bike shop sticker on it doesn't make the stickers, paint, frame or bike original.

Only if you have........... as an example, BMXproducts seat tube sticker with a date, then the stickers are original. Then without a doubt, you can say this paint is original.

Maybe the stickers are old, worn, faded and cracking. It doesn't make them original.
But it's an older refinshed, restoration.

I'm not sure if you would still call this a survivor?

Would you?

I'm looking for the following frames, frame & forks or completes by BMX products:
MotoTrac (nickle or chrome), Racer-X or a Super-X (with the double gussets preferred).
Thanks wink
I'm also johnng23604 at "Retro-goose", "VintageBMX" & "RADbmx"

On route to the powder coaters. The decals look a lil worn and the lil chipmunk decals on the seat post bugs me. Soon it will be a thickly coated white....http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/6830/dsc03019p.jpg

Re: HELP SAVE THE SURVIVORS!!!

You can't build a survivor. A bike built with old parts is just that - a bike built with old parts.

The more I progress into this 'hobby', the more I appreciate true survivors.

Turkey - that's an awesome GT smile

so when you list parts from a parted survivor do you list them as "old parts for sale"?  a survivor build can be just that - built with survivor parts.

Looking for:
Green survivor 86 Haro Master frame/fork.
89/90 Haro Master parts - all of them, big and small.

Re: HELP SAVE THE SURVIVORS!!!

You do what you want with the beat up old hacks, Ill restore them......would you drive a rusted out POS 67 Shelby Mustang? If they are good ill keep them as a survivor. While i get what your trying to say, it doesnt make any sence when a bike needs restoration.

And oh here is my survivors, right down to the decals, they are bikes they dont have souls, it just means the owners were posers

Re: HELP SAVE THE SURVIVORS!!!

I love all bikes: survivors, survivor-builds, rebuilds, restores, show-builds, NOS, POS, OS, MS, NS, .... as long as they are ridden. smile

As for my own collection, I will not have a carpet queen. If it's complete, it gets ridden.

They don't and he's not. Personally i don't like powder coat at all and would never powder anything but if by some crazy chance i bump my head and decide to, I personally would go to the C4 dude only because my buddy got a frame done by him and it was the only powder coat job that didn't make me want to barf. And that says a lot.

I would drive an old P.O.S. rusty Shelby Mustang... neutral Who wouldn't? I mean c'mon, its a Shelby!

I'm really not a Mustang fan though, I would probably just drive it to somewhere I could trade it for a Firebird/ Trans Am. smile

I do think there comes a time when a bike NEEDS to be restored, nobody wants to see a beautiful bike go to $h!t like that Haro Master pictured in this thread. IMO that bike should be restored...

Agreed, a rusted out mess will continue to rust.  It needs a new finish on it to stop the corrosion.

Re: HELP SAVE THE SURVIVORS!!!

I agree with the thread-started... nothing drives me nuts more than to see an 80's survivor parted out on eBay. OK, you will make a couple more bucks, but you are destroying history for a couple bucks.  If you are in it for the bucks, then maybe you are not in it for the right reasons.

This one I just got... I was going to go nuts and take it down and powder it, new decals, etc... but, the more I look at it, the more I like it as-is. The only thing I would do to it is NOS grips, chain and break cables and that's it.

Everything is original down to the tires and even the reflectors.
http://mouseindustries.com/bmxmuseum/87Performer.png

Now, on the other hand... This one is going to be stripped, powdered, new decals, etc... There is a difference between a survivor and a train wreck smile
