Stunning frame, one of the finest.........love the decals, custom platform and frame color is A+. I would expect nothing less from you........cant wait to see this all played out. big_smile

Thanks.....soon bro.....as stated this bike will be mainly for my son so it will be built 'small'......

Superb intrikat!   Why not use a long pivotal post and new S&M seat?

I tried that and didn`t like it I preferred the look of the thin seat. The sheild on the thin seat matches better with the headtube decal on the frame.  smile

I agree, the black Thin Seat was the right move with the Thomson post. Comfortable and bullet proof to boot. The new pivitol directors seat is nice, but the shield seat on this blacked out beast was spot on.

Re: S&M 25th Anniversary Mad Dog Tribute Limited Edition Intrikat 2012

I think both of your bikes are killer, I respect the fact that you both had the balls to build a personal bike with custom touches. Sometimes I see bikes partially as artwork if you will. Yes they are steel and meant to be ridden, but being creative is an important factor in being average or exceptional. Both of these bikes have a specific point to stand out from the crowd. There wont be 2 finer Intrikat builds on this site. Suicidepan, the touch of color on your sprocket was perfect for the sticker color scheme. As far as Diablo goes with the custom platform and painting over chrome, that gamble paid off bigtime. Its a one of a kind, S&M would love this bike.

Thanks man smile I won`t build a bike that doesn`t fit me perfectly and act the eay I want it to. Alot of the time that requires making parts that don`t exist to acheive this goal. It has to be pleasing to the eye also this is where the art parts comes in so colors and parts selection have to be perfect. Diablo`s platform was pure genius it is very difficult to mix old and new ideas successfully and the 90`s style platform fused to a new frame worked perfect !!! I`m also I big fan of painted frames. I think there are still plenty  untapped ideas lurking in peoples minds and I hope people are creative enough to explore them and make them a reality. smile

Have you tried a Infinity Kevlar ? I use one on my Quamen Delta 3 and it`s super comforable with fitted finger grooves on the back. smile

Sorry for the late response Bro....yes, I saw that 11T driver on Flatland Fuel and may just get that one......need to run 11 or 12 as I'm running a 28T front sporcket on my next build and I will be putting the rear brakes on the lower chainstays so the chain has to clear.

This one has 9T driver with loose ball bearings.

Here's a pic of mine......the shell is a flat gold color, with green anodized Quamen cap. I am hoping to find a shiny gold shell, otherwise I may just reanodize this one.

I've made a few upgrades to mine as well. Nothing fancy like welding on extra bits of steel or a custom paint job (both look great BTW guys.). Just some parts upgrades.
I've been riding it pretty non-stop since I got it in May & have been having a blast. The upgrades/parts swaps I've done since then are shorter cranks, 28/11 gearing, a full set of Animal Butcher Pegs & an Ody F25 fork. It's riding good.

Re: S&M 25th Anniversary Mad Dog Tribute Limited Edition Intrikat 2012

I've decided I want to learn Flatland and since I get deals through S&M, I'm going to build up a Intrikat.

I need some help though cause I have NO clue on setting up a Flatland bike. I will be running front and rear brakes since I live in the City and going with the Intrikat 9 bars. I'm about 5'11- 5'12 and am thinking to go with the 20.5TT?? since all over my other bikes are 21"+ TT's, or should I get a 20"TT??

Can I run a Pitchfork w 990 mounts, or am I better off getting a flatland fork? And if so, whats one of the strongest for a 250+lbs rider?

What's a good crank arm length and stem length? Should I run a short stem like the Redneck FLT? And whats a good gearing to run, I usually run a harder gear like 45-16 or the equivalent in new school smaller sprockets on my bikes

Lastly, should I go freecoaster, or stick to a regular hub?

Thanks

Thanks

If I were in your shoes here is what I would chose. smile
20" top tube maybe even a 19.5"
Primo strand with the minimal offset it's easier to learn with and will hold the weight.
160 mm cranks
26 mm reach stem nothing longer.
If you like harder gearing even though it is not recommend for flat because it will be harder to set up for tricks I would go with 23/9 this would be the hardest gear I would run and a 23 will fit any cranks on the market 22 and lower decreases crank choices by a lot.
Free coaster is a MUST you will hate a flat bike that doesn't have a free coaster.

My intrikat is finished and rides very well and can be ridden for flat or street. Check it out it might give you some ideas. Good luck smile

Setting up a build to suit you will be personal preference, what works for one rider, might not for the next. Tall riders are usually more comfortable on a longer frame (20", 20.5", etc.) and cranks (170mm or 175mm).

You can run a Pitchfork on an Intrikat, no problem. It will create a longer wheel base compared to the majority of flatlanders but, I've seen it done. I think Pitchforks have a 33mm offset. 0-15mm is more common in flatland. The shorter the wheel base, the quicker the bike responds. First time flatlanders usually mention how twitchy the bikes are. Some prefer a less responsive ride and run a longer offset fork.

Freecoasters are great for flatland for a couple reasons, but not necessary.

smile You're welcome.

I just noticed my typo and edited it, I meant to say "Freecoasters are great for flatland for a couple reasons, but not necessary"

I've seen freewheel and cassette hubs used for flatland, they're not as popular as freecoasters among flatlanders, but still functional.

Re: S&M 25th Anniversary Mad Dog Tribute Limited Edition Intrikat 2012

Just noticed I missed the question regarding stem reach- I prefer the Redneck FLT for a couple reasons: the minimal reach (26mm) makes the front end more responsive and when the bars are in the opposite position (which some tricks require) there's minimal difference from one position to the other. Best of all, the boltless-back design is very smooth and more knee friendly than most clamp-on stems. Some riders prefer a longer reach for their own reasons.

Here's an example of my current ride with a 26mm FLT Redneck

and here's an example of a S&M Intrikat with a 53mm reach XLT Redneck
http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo301/intrikat_2008/ryanrussell2012_b.jpg

another variation, this time a top-load with a 54mm reach

There are many variations to choose from, you just have to find what works best for you. Hopefully this helps you a little.
