Re: 1967 Mattel Stallion 16"

Hello, everyone.
My first Mattel Stallion was given to me in 1965 for Christmas.
That was stolen in 1967.
My Aunt bought me another and that bike was stolen a year later in 1968.

The bike was 50.00 dollars and had 'slick' tires!!

I waxed the entire bike w/Dad's car wax; the bike was a thing of beauty.  I will search for pictures
and post them in the near future.

The bike was heavy, 45-50 lbs.  - I once went through a wooden fence in Bethpage, New York.  lol

Regards,
Lance

Re: 1967 Mattel Stallion 16"

I bought a Mattel Stallion on Ebay recently as a project bike to complete with my 7 year old son.smile Did quite a bit of research before I bought it because I had never seen one before and the design looked so unusual and interesting that I wanted to learn more about this strange looking machine. My search eventually led me here (among other sites) and I closely studied these pictures before bookmarking this page and placing my bid. I ended up winning the auction and drove to pick up the bike in Yorba Linda, CA from a collector who was downsizing his collection. My son and I were excited to get the bike home and start cleaning it up. We looked the bike over real good and then went to the computer to see how our bike compared to the others we had seen online. Imagine our surprise when we clicked on this bookmark, supersized the pictures and realized we were staring at pictures of the very bicycle we had just purchased! LOL lol

What really threw me off is that this site lists this bike as a 1975 model and it was advertised on Ebay as a 1967 model. If the serial number which starts with a two-digit "M6" is any clue, the bike may have been manufactured in 1966.

Plans are to build a resto-custom out of it. I have a new set of whitewalls coming for it. Fat slick in the rear, old school brick design for the front. Also on the way are a new set of classic looking sparkle grips and rubber crate pedals. Rear rim needs a lot of work, a little rusty, missing quite a few spokes that are pulled through and pretty wobbly. Hope I can save it because it's pretty wide and I'm not sure if I can find another one like it. I'm thinking about having both rims powder coated in red, but I'm not 100% sure yet.hmm

Personally, I really like the garish "googie" design of this bike. Looks like something the Jetson's would ride. The frame is very cool looking with the rear of it built to resemble a set of pipes. I like the rake of the fork and how it looks like it's speeding down the road even when it's standing still. I believe this one might have been equipped with a Mattel Vrroom engine at one time as there are mounting holes on the frame and neck. It is missing the fenders and kickstand. I'd like to have the kickstand, but I'll probably run it fenderless anyway because I think it looks better without them.

A friend I met online provided a copy of an ad from the 1966 JC Penney catalog. Originally sold for $54.88 or payments of $5 a month! Here's a link to the ad: http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp13 … ge0186.jpg
