Re: Thinking about offering a 26/29 Elf what do you think

I personally like 29ers, and have a retro Quad (not SE version) and a single speed mountain bike.  Both are steel.  For my mountain bike build, I sought a US made steel frame, and found it hard as he!! to buy one.  Also, I see that a lot of bigger mountain bike companies are starting to offer steel frames again, as aluminum is cheaper and lighter, yes,  but no where as forgiving as steel.  Carbon mountain bikes are priced in the stratosphere, but certainly bring down the weight.

I think the BMX route is great for a 26 and 29 concept-however outplayed at this point, and also believe the mountain bike single speed route may be another good venture.  Especially with the name- ELF.

Another thought is a 26 inch dirt jumper.  The Black Market MOBs are starting to become collector items, since they were S&M made, and not available anymore.

I think a 29" ELF would be fun(ny) as hell!

You could nickname it "Buddy". big_smile

I'm sure you'd sell dozens. lol

If going 29" make it so there is front tire / crank room, like at least a 24" top tube.

Re: Thinking about offering a 26/29 Elf what do you think

A 26' f/f would be sweet.  I think the trick is to make it look low-pro and sleek without making it a full on race bike. Meaning, the more comfortable you make it ride at slow to moderate speeds the better. How many would make it to the track?  For me, the more like a bmx beach cruiser the better. The 26" quad is a good example of that, imo. A looptail would be awesome. If you want to make a dirt jumper make a dirt jumper, but don't mix or fuse the two. ELF was spawned and rooted in bmx and because of it should highly influence your choice of build style. Color/treatment, bb style & brake options would be extremely cool. I'd be down for 26". cool

Re: Thinking about offering a 26/29 Elf what do you think

I would like to see a 26" ELF with modern racebike geometry. Euro BB, 27.2mm seatpost size, with an integrated headset.

Still searching for my missing bikes from BITD. 1979 Blue Max serial: CI9 221346 and 1977 Webco serial: 42667. Both were last seen at Spoke and Sport Bicycles in Spokane, WA around 1984. $600 reward if found!!

Re: Thinking about offering a 26/29 Elf what do you think

IMHO, current race frame 26" er. Euro bb since the market never took off with bb30 for bmx. I like American bb's but racers won't want to run adaptors to fit euro kits their cranks will come with. Can integrated chain tensioners possibly fit into a steel frame as they do on alumin?  Slightly long TT and a tad more slack at head tube to keep tire toe overlap minimal.  Enough room in the rear tri to fit a market that's loaded with tires in the 1.95-2.1 range. Try finding a  26" race specific tire in 1.75 these days. Luckily porkchop carries compiii's but current race tires would be preferred on a full race bike. SE has the budget beach cruiser, this should be a hardcore race machine that tempts riders away from their current sled.

Re: Thinking about offering a 26/29 Elf what do you think

I'm a big fan of 29ers...  If you offer one up be certain to do yer homework on the geometry of these things.  Toe overlap, short chainstay ect.  Don't want a bike that handles like a pig.

Yeah, I hbave been really enjoying my 29er too..
or even a 69er.. have you heard of that.. a 26 on back and 29 up front..
I like a smaller more nimble frame, for me, this GT is the best one yet..
