macr0w. I was gonna ask this the other day and forgot. rust removal. I know you've done it more than a few times.
CAP power or the OA bath - why do you prefer the CAP? less toxic?
Also, say you had a rusty frame with decals more or less in tact - do decals make it through this process? or are they toast?

Yep. Probably, but it was fun to ride around the parking lot a bit. those fat tires just roll and roll.....
Hey boersma - ever do an inventory on the 26" rims you have some stock of? I'm looking a set in blue or silver to go on that OM a few posts up.
I am nothing if not a dedicated procrastinator. The 26" pro class / suzue rimset I'm going to keep for a project I'm working on, but I do have a clean set of silver Araya 7x with High flange Sunshine hubs. Some of the spokes are rusty, so they'll probably need to be re-spoked, with light - medium pad wear on the sides. I was going to buff them to see how they come out, but as I mentioned earlier, I am a consummate procrastinator. They should clean up nice. I've had much worse looking rim sets come out looking very very nice. I have 1 Ukai 7c type in blue, another Araya 7x set in 1.5 with low flange Sovos hubs, and a set of gold Ukai 7c type on gold sunshine HF hubs. No curb hits on any of these, no flat spots, but brake rub on most.
I'm sorry I offended you by calling you stupid, but I thought you already knew.

Got pics of these? Are the hubs sealed and silver as well?

don't know much about rims, I was a skyway guy back in the day. Are these silver as well? and when you say 1.5, as opposed to the set you mention above with 7x's and Sunshine hubs, are they not 1.5's?
I assume the same tires will fit on both pretty much right? ![]()
Great, now i guess i have to get on here and do my research on rims and sizes! ![]()

they're both very mild (by comparison) and shouldn't harm decals unless you decided to leave them in the bath for like 3 weeks or so. Oxyalic and Citric acid (as well as Vinegar which is Ascorbic acid I believe) attack the rust pretty much the same way, and are both considered biodegradable. Usually the choice comes down to which is more available, although I believe Oxyalic is generally easier to get in concentrated form. You can, however, always run to the grocery store to get a couple big bottles of Lemon juice... it's not concentrated like the powder, but it does work.

Great, now i guess i have to get on here and do my research on rims and sizes!
The standard old school Araya 7x (as well as 7c and 7b and most Ukais) were rated as 1.75 width. Thus the 20x1.75 stamp (or 26x1.75 in your case) in the early-mid 80's, rims started coming out in 1.5 width as a weight saving device, especially if they were double wall. Most of the mid school rims are 1.5, as are alot of the race rims now, although I am seeing more and more 1.75's.
Araya did make the 7x rim in both sizes, and the standard sized bmx tires (1.75-2.125 width) will fit fine on 1.5 rims without any problem, but it does change the footprint of the tire. 1.5 became the standard width used on most mountain bikes for the last 20 years or so, so considering they commonly use tire widths up to 2.4, I don't think fitting standard thinner tires should be a problem.
By the way, I also have a set of Araya RM17's in 1.5 with King Kong Hubs, if you're interested, but they definitely look mid school, not old school.

I like the CAP.
It works like a charm.
It's easy to get from Amazon dot com.

I guess i never did answer your questions... the Sunshines are not sealed. They are loose ball. Almost every other type I have on the 26" rim sets are either sealed mechanism or truly sealed. with the exception of the gold Ukai's and the blue Ukai, everything is silver. Some of the rim sets are set up with an offset for a large freewheel cluster, and some will need axle replacement due to having hollow spindles for quick release skewers a'la MTB.

Did this thing have screen print originally, or is it correct this way? I have a black set that have print, and the front to this is a print.

I got some parts in the mail today.
Levers, Sprocket and cables. ![]()
I was trying to get every single part for this bike from Lenny but apparently Dans Comp has cleaned Odyssey out of a few items on my list.
They didn't have the "Million Dollar Sprocket" in a 25t and they didn't have the Monolevers in the "trigger" size.
I just got them and they look Trick!!! ![]()

Re: North Carolina Riders
You see, this is what Garren does.
He just sits back and waits till everybody's posted their latest builds or scores or what ever they've been working on.
Then he goes BAM!!!
And strikes with a new Patty or some Aerospeeds or something like that.
He shuts everybody up then he goes back into the woodworks again.
At least until somebody thinks they have somethong cool again.![]()
