1987 Pro Freestyle Tour Dayglo Restore
Time for me to put together the bike I had when 14!
May take some time but I will update any progress, start of something beautiful here, can't rush
I have some parts coming to show soon but at this point this is what i'm working with! This will be all NOS or ORIG/Restored or it wont be.

Thanks to oldskool87gt I have some fresh powdered Tech 7, 87 Nippon, AD990, post clamp and last but not least a sweet chain ring with nos chain ring bolts. Can't wait!
Snatched a pair of white tires from halfdozenbuzen, not shinko but looking good. Will have pics up of new parts when they come in.
I know my mallet is aweful. either going to have it redone or find one done. If anyone has one let me know.
Some of the things I will need: Gyro, Upper/lower cables, gt chain, pedals, headset, bottom cup/bearings, seat.
I have an 88 dayglo pro performer survivor coming in the mail monday that I thought had some superlaces on it, but what it may have is superlace hubs but not the sealed kind and they're not ukai rims. Original plan was to restore the rims for this build and sell the survivor bike but now I may keep it! That will be a whole other story for near future
If you check my post I have a thread on it. Well, that's about it. I know some people have seen enough dayglo restores, but this one is a must for me.

Enjoy the build. That stem isn't that bad, I've fixed worse.

GTOne, whats the difference? Is one metal? I would like ones like that are on the bike in my avatar, I think they were the plastc

AirInk, yea the last one I had powdered the guy didn't do as he was supposed to and he painted the whole thing (not the long part talking about the front with the gt logo) and when I mentioned it when I picked it up he brought it in the back and ran it across a wire wheel or what not and it brushed those horizontal lines out of it and changed the texture.. But for this one I don't want that to happen, do you think I should just tape it up myself before bringing ? Like tape it up and xacto knife the g t out of it? how do you prep the front before paint/powder. Thanks for looking ![]()

Re: 1987 Pro Freestyle Tour Dayglo Restore
Someone just recently posted a DIY for getting the proper texture back on the GT after a restore... basically.. paint/powder it,tape off leaving the circle.. sand in one direction.. did the exact thing about two months ago.. came out perfect...

It's fun to see the same clapped out 20$ part posted at the same price, for the 30th time. At what point will you just give it to someone who might use it?

Re: 1987 Pro Freestyle Tour Dayglo Restore
tobin, yea man just trying to do the right thing
that's why some of my questions may sound simple but I just like to discuss and get other people opinions even though in the end it's on me. Funny thing is I was all ready to sell the 88 survivor and now i'm thinking about keeping it. If I sell it it will help speed up this restore but I think its going to clean up real nice. Unsure, I still may sell whole thing like it is. I will post it to the museum next week so it will have it's own thread to discuss ![]()
kbillan, thanks for stopping by
I will have to find that thread but I see what your saying. Once you put a grinder or anything like that on it that texture goes away. I can definitely see taping the rest off and just sanding side to side. Just have to do good job keeping the inside the gt lettering cle

Re: 1987 Pro Freestyle Tour Dayglo Restore
Got some of the goodies today! Everything looking good. I had concerns about the tires but now that I got them in my hands I know they'll work out.. They're not shinkos but they'll do. I ever get some shinkos I have a performer sitting here can use them so
The gt wings is on a thin crinkly applique but I like the pattern and they are 1.75.. well, this what we got so far.

Is anything cheap for these builds
I can see repowdering but what happens with the grey plastic pieces and possibly black?

Re: 1987 Pro Freestyle Tour Dayglo Restore
the texture in the metal is restored or replaced w hen you use a coarse grit. It will never bee "the same" but does the trick...
I went as far as to clear over mine once done..
those tires are the BMX tread... but look good..

yes, the tires have those little knobs at the bottom, like i said some things will have to do for now
trying not to use anything new unless nos. Somethings in the future I may replace out with nos as the opportunity present itself... you know how it goes. Yea, Im going to bring this mallet to get powdered but I need to figure what else white I need to bring. Thanks to olskool I have all these other parts already powdered. If I had a powdered mallet and gyro I really wouldn't need anything white except poss the pedals.

Re: 1987 Pro Freestyle Tour Dayglo Restore
ok! So I got the 88 Pro Performer. I submitted to the museum and have more pics but going to wait till the thread shows up to post them but here are the rims. They looked sealed? Are these the right high flanged superlace hubs I need and does anyone know what rim it is and if it would be a good candidate for powdering the inside of the rim white? They do need to be restored, the chrome is flakey in spots.

Re: 1987 Pro Freestyle Tour Dayglo Restore
I don't ever see these things come up. wonder if it is worth getting it repowdered white even if it is looseball, sure it would look fantastic. But I have no idea of their value and this is prob just a no name chrome rim and I dont know if i should restore the inside of it white. Cost alot to restore both hubs, paint the inside hoop and replace all spokes im looking at over $350 so I guess that money could go towards a sealed set/etc.

thank you
and yes, it is sweet. I am going to have to do the tires, chain, brake work because if it's going to be a survivor frame i'm going to ride it.
It's even got black/silver tech 7s.
it does suck that the superlace aren't sealed, but wouldn't they still be worth to restore or no? they would look the part. Im still trying to figure out if its worth restoring those rims to white?? The chrome is flaking either way.

Man, I've become a sealed bearing snob. But, you could have C4 powder them white, clean & repack the bearings, then decide. You could always sell them for a small profit afterwards if you decide not to keep them... no harm in that. (assuming it's not much $ to get them powdered white)
Option 2 - Sell em now and put the $ towards some sealed ones.
Keep in mind the sealed Superlace Hubs are going for around $200 unrestored... give or take.
