2011 Redline Proline

2011 Redline Proline Pro-XL that thinks it's a 1980s PL-20

So as not to place undue wear and tear on my Patterson, I picked up this 2011 Redline Proline Pro-XL from RL-20II Guy in early 2012 for daily riding - first Redline I've ridden since my MX-II back in 1982.

Re: 2011 Redline Proline

The fact that the factory stock white paint and black and red decals of the 2011 Proline reminded me of the early- to mid-1980s PL-20s played into my decision to buy one as a daily rider.  That said, after a couple of months, I was really inclined to take the a retro-theme and set further and make some aesthetic modifications to my Proline.  What you see here are the before and after pictures of my day-to-day rider.  As part of its reimaging:

* stock decals were replaced with 1985-era PL-20 decals (the seat tube decals had to be cut virtually in half for the 2011 frame's lower geometry);
* stock red crank arms and Redline platform pedals were replaced with chrome flight cranks and bear trap pedals;
* stock bars were replaced by chrome Supercross bars;
* stock seat and post were replaced with a Supercross pivotal seat and chrome Shadow Conspiracy post; and
* original tires were replaced with red Comp III skinwalls.

With the added color and chrome, the bike is far more reminiscent of the Redlines I remember seeing back when I was growing up and definitely feels more like "mine."

Additionally, I still have sheets of the 1981 Carrera and 1984 PL-20 decals.  I went with the 1985 decals as the 1981- and 1984-era decals didn't seem quite substantial enough given the 2011 bikes larger downtube.  That said, I figure I'll ride it this way until the decals start getting torn up, at which point I'll swap them out for those of another era, continuing to do so for as long as this remains my daily rider.

Cheers,
CGS

Pefrect combination of the "Old School" look paired with "New School" techonology.  It looks killer...
