1978 Schwinn Scrambler 36/36
1978 Schwinn Scrambler 36/36
My 1978 Scrambler Tribute
This bike was built as a tribute to my original Scrambler. In 1978, I purchased a Scrambler 36/36. At the time, I wanted a Mag Scrambler but just didnt have the money. Within my first year, I purchased two tuff wheels (one at a time) and I now had my Mag Scrambler. People have made comments that a 36/36 did not come with mags and that is definately true however this bike was built to satisfy ME. It is an exact replica of my first real BMX bike.
When I decided to start this project, I searched ebay and found a 1979 Phantom. It was in pretty nice shape but it needed to be completely reworked to look like my vision. The first purchase was a set of new tuff wheels and although they are not correct for the era, they suit my needs just fine. I have since purchased a set of Tuff 1's that I am currently restoring for this bike.
This build now has NOS pedals, newer sprocket, new schwinn chain, NOS pads, new seat, new seat post, new seat post clamp, head badge, reflectors, and headset. The frame was stripped down to metal, primed and painted in a base clear, automotive PPG paint. Repro stickers were added as well. Handlebars, chainguard, and forks were also stripped, primed and painted in a high gloss, base clear, finish.
This bike turned out to be exactly as I visioned! Hope other old school Schwinn fans will dig it too!
Here is my build post on this bike: http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=401935

Great job. A Scrambler 36/36 was my first BMX bike.
