1979 SE Racing DB IV

This is a rare 1979 SE Racing DB IV. The DB IV was named after Derek Brown, an 8 year old SE factory sponsored rider from Englewood Colorado.

This rare mini frame is the predecessor to the mini ripper.  This is a pre-serial # frame.   Derek Brown, the frame namesake, ranked number 4 nationally in the 8 year old category in1979.  During that time, Derek was almost unbeatable, winning races with ease.  He was also a very good moto-cross (motorcycles) rider as well as an elite Bmxer.  In 1980, he switched his concentration from bicycles to motorcycles.  Derek had a great career as a nationally ranked moto-cross rider that lasted many years.  After Dereks departure from BMx, the DB IV became the mini ripper.  I had an absolute BLAST building this bike!  I hope you enjoy it.  Thanks for looking!  Dean

Re: 1979 SE Racing DB IV

Super looking color on that bike. Nailed some details, right on the money. The single SE sticker on the seat tube was that way on the 79 bikes only. It was different in 80 and beyond. And the Tange made SE/BMX Innovations forks are dead on perfect.

I'd just love to see it with different rims and tires. To me, 7x's are too new for a 1979 vintage bike, and you'd roll with 7b's or 7c's. and blackwall knobbies or snakebellies vs. the Comp III's.

Whenever someone says, "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart," all I hear is, "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart."

Re: 1979 SE Racing DB IV

I live in Colorado and raced Motocross for years.  I watched Derek Brown in his later years tear up the tracks in Colorado.  I remember  attending a race in Erie, Colorado in 1992 and while watching Derek Brown wax the Open Pro class I overheard a fellow racer say "Do you know P.K. Ripper named a bike after Derek Brown?"

That's when I heard about his childhood BMX history, and I was kinda blown away at the fact.

The last time I saw DB, he did'nt look too well, A little on the Heavy side and a jaw that would'nt stay still (if you know what I mean).
Still a legend though and a big part of SE History!
