Patterson PR 200 Color choice - Your opinion
I'm having a hard time chosing the primary color to add to my PR 200. The blue parts give it a "cool" look but I think if I do blue I need some gold parts too. Blue and Orange reminds me of the Denver Broncos - and that's "not cool" ![]()
I have a Red seat and grips too so I tried that on. I'm not sold on either and don't want to make it chrome and gold like my cruiser. What do you think? Yes, the spoke nipples are blue. I also have yellow and red brake pads, red and blue brake cables and gold valve caps. Maybe some gold chain ring bolts? Thoughts?

How about white or black parts, or maybe a little of both? I'm thinking white grips and seat + replace the spoke nipples with black ones. Maybe an orange brake cable.....

Re: Patterson PR 200 Color choice - Your opinion
How about mixing the blue and red and then adding the slightest bits of orange. (go with the pads colors)
Go strong with the blue and red and then let something small, like an orange brake cable pull the look together.
Would look awesome!

Re: Patterson PR 200 Color choice - Your opinion
White parts never existed in '83 BMX racing, maybe '85-'89 freestyle. Black did but not White - that's an OS freestyle color. Orange also did not exist in '83 BMX Racing either. The color choices were Chrome/silver, Black, Red, Blue and Gold. Thanks for the input so far, keep them coming. No more advise on Orange and White, Those color DO NOT belong on a 83 patty. ![]()
My personal 83 PR200 racer BITD was all chrome and silver with red spoke nipples, blue Kashimax MX, Blue Grab On MX3's. Once I went blue nips it was hard to reverse it. I don't want to relace these wheels again.

As is now:

I'm thinking about going with a clear cable (silver showing through), silver mathausers, and blue chainring bolts. I did a 1 minute "photoshop" to get a quick idea. What do you think of this combo? No gold, no red, just sivler and blue.

I like it the way it sits, but swap out the pads, maybe the cable. I'm working on an 82, with gold and blue parts, but black seat and grips.

Sorry but thats not true. Comp 2 tires were definately pre 83. And they came in orange

Re: Patterson PR 200 Color choice - Your opinion
What do you mean orange parts didn't exist, and that white doesn't belong on a Patterson?
To start with the PR200 was issued to factory riders in white. Plus the pads, decals all have white in them. B1b where available in white sleeves. Lots of other parts where available in white too.
As for orange, many guys ran road bike component, and orange was one of them. (especially brake cables). Pretty sure the kashimax Aero and MX came in orange.
Also, as mentioned the tires.
But if you insist on no orange or white, then go all chrome and black with just a hint of yellow.

Re: Patterson PR 200 Color choice - Your opinion
IMHO, Patty's and orange are so totally incorrect. I rode them for years and followed the every move of the team. Never did any factory rider use an orange part until maybe the very end of Patty's existence. I have seen one bike after another on here built in orange and it looks like garbage. Totally softens the otherwise eye-popping graphics. Black and Gold is my choice. Maybe a little blue here and there. Look at SE666's Patty. Also, IMHO, Graphites and Pattys go together perfectly.

I like it exactly as you have it sitting now. The subtle yellow cable and brakepads ties in with the decals perfectly and gives it some contrast, but your brakepads may be a bit new if you want it perfectly era correct. They look like bright yellow skyways freestyles which would have been a bit later, but you'd have to thumb through some BMXA's to be sure. Some finned blue Kool-Stops would certainly do the trick. Some black or blue chainring bolts would set it off as well, but I'm just not sure if I recall seeing anything but chrome bolts in the early 80's?? It's all in the little details. ![]()

They are Skyway freestyle pads - for sure. I have some polished Skyway tuf fins but not pads. I put two set on my cruisers this week. I sort of want Mathausers but they are hard to find. I threw a set in the trash 10 years ago - In perfect shape!!!!!
PS: I never saw a set of Orange tires or anything in that time frame, never. They may have existed but I never saw them on a race bike.

Re: Patterson PR 200 Color choice - Your opinion
As for Orange and White. I've looked over every BMX magazine and in 1983 I could not find one example of anything orange except blue and orange vans (which are not bike parts) which patty riders might have worn. I have not seen one single part yet that is orange, and I clearly do not remember ever having seen them in 1983 and I raced a patterson PR200s so I would have noticed. Kashimax seat were Definitely not Orange 1983. Black, Blue, Red and Yellow only on every seat they made in 1983 and prior. I'd like to be proven wrong, I'm getting old and my memory may be fading.
Post ad's and site their date and origin. Must be Circa 1983 and earlier.

Re: Patterson PR 200 Color choice - Your opinion
Ok, after a brief bit or research I learned they made Orange Comp II in 1979, 1980 and 1981. Not 1982 or later and definitely not in 1983 when this bike came out but it did predate this frame/fork series. So you could have possibly later put these on an '83 but they would have been at least a few years old.

Re: Patterson PR 200 Color choice - Your opinion
Nice info ESW. Those orange Comp 2s are as rare as they come. A guy I know has a black with green skin wall Comp 2. Only one anyone has ever seen. So anyway, Gold was always the anodized color I remember seeing on the Factory bikes. I think Richie ran some red 7bs once. So, I say some black, gold annodizing and maybe blue accents like seat. I like black seats but blue or yellow could look good.
