1983 Skyway T/A
1983 Skyway T/A
One of my favorite bikes of all time!
I never had the chance to own one of these growing up. I never even saw one locally, just in magazines. I ran an ad on Craigslist that I was looking for old school BMX bikes. One day, two kids called me up and said that they had a bike called a "Skyway" that they would sell to me. They found it cleaning out a neighbor's shed. The neighbor told them they could have it. I drove 50 miles to pick it up after they sent me a picture of it. I knew what it was and was really excited! I got the Tuff I's, the F/F, headset, cranks, and what I believe to be the original Skyway race bars from them. Sadly, it used to be chrome before I had Chip to powder it white. Someone had really done a terrible job sanding the chrome and they had ruined it. I finished it off with parts from sellers here on the Museum. I've always loved these bikes and I'm grateful to own one now. I tried to keep it "race ready".
And you'll pick me up how, on that dumb bike? Yeah!

Thanks man. It was definitely a lucky pickup! I think those kids wanted to sell it to get money to buy a "newer" bike. Their loss= my gain!!
