Hi Walt. Welcome to the NZ thread. I'm in Christchurch too. What part of Christchurch are you in?
I used to race 81-85, and I have a Kuwahara 24 too. Mines a 1983:

Re: Kuwahara 24 1982 New Zealand Resto
Great bikes! I wish I head one. My dream ride. Just trying to put together a laserlite. Anyone got a 44T Black Sugino and a Suntour Powerstem handy? Got some brand new Ukai Speedlines for it but after some High Flange sealed suntours to suit too.

Re: Kuwahara 24 1982 New Zealand Resto
My Kuwahara 24 came from the US (like all my framesets). I don't ever recall a Kuwahara 24 on the racing circuit back here in the 80's.
I sold my last two Suntour stems last year. High flanged sealed Suntours are very hard to find. I was originally going to build mine as a "Laserlite Replica 24", but gave up, as I found everything except the black high flange sealed Suntours.

Re: Kuwahara 24 1982 New Zealand Resto
Still, that is a incredible build. Love the cranks and the overall look. XCII pedals with the black chainring and the profile (?)cranks look amazing.
I have a Mongoose Pro Class 24 but not really built up to original spec. Good rider though, just really need new rims as I have hubs waiting so I can clean up the build.
