Removing Cigarette Smoke Smell From Rubber Parts?

I recently picked up a pile of NOS grips and tires.  Its all NOS and unused, but unfortunately, has an extremely strong cigarette smoke odor.  To the point where when I left a couple sets of grips in my spare bedroom and closed the door, I gagged when I opened the door the next day.  Its pretty bad.  I tried soaking the grips in Dawn Detergent and water while scrubbing with a toothbrush a couple times a day.  for the weekend, but that doesn't seem to work.  Other than leaving them in my garage for a couple months, does anyone know of a way to get the odor out?

It's hard man. I've gotten stuff from heavy smokers and washed them in dish detergent and eft them outside for a few days hmm

Depending on the color, you can try soaking them in V-8.

Re: Removing Cigarette Smoke Smell From Rubber Parts?

Mid 80's stuff and all over the board on colors.  Nothing really high end or big though.  I think I'll just leave it air out in my garage for a few months.  I have no immediate need.  Thanks!

Try ODO BAN . You can get it at Sams. Works on about anything . Mywife washed my clothes in it when I worked at the paper mill here . Only thing that would get rid of the smell . And that smell is alot worse than smokes .

Re: Removing Cigarette Smoke Smell From Rubber Parts?

put in a big cardboard box overnight with an uncooked potato (still in the skin). Should help absorb a good amount of the smoke scent. just make sure nothing is touching the potato so it doesn't discolor. old car guy trick someone showed me once.

Re: Removing Cigarette Smoke Smell From Rubber Parts?

Looks like vinegar and water in some warm water. One site I looked at said about 1 cup of vinegar in the water... didn't sound like much to me.

PLASTIC [or other washable] TOYS, ETC.

Bleach and vinegar won't get to some smells that plastic absorbs.

Try using kitty litter confined with the plastic item. Pack it as for books (above) pack it in there and leave it for a few days. If the toy is small enough, put it in the kitty litter bag from the store.

Dump them in the bathtub, with soap and vinegar.

Run them through the dishwasher.

Scrub them by hand with orange or lemon based cleaner. The dollar store sells AWESOME but it has strong fumes. Spray it onto your cloth and then wipe it on straight.

I bought a few things like that. I tried everything and never go it completely out. It's crazy what smoke will infiltrate.

You could try this.  Or  Have a good cry, and use a pair of your frilly panties (frills are important) to soak your tears up, and use these tear soaked panties to rub the icky smokey smell away!
