cmc, I am not familiar with those Open Prison bars.  Very nice!!

I did try a set of the Atomlab GI bars a few years ago and they bent.  I upgraded to their Pimp and had no problems though.

yes 1" bars have a tendency to bend.  Thats why i went with Deity since they're 1.25" and have a 3" rise.

I don't believe the GI bar is 4130 either.  I've been on a 22.2 Black Market Molyhatchet for several months with no issues this far, including a pretty nasty OTB crash.  Deity makes some very nice products as well - seriously looked at their set up before my current.

About as old school as you can get for a Mountain DJ.

2000 Specialized P3 Short, the first year they made them.
I scored it today at a thrift store-not super cheap, but good.
Doesn't need much beside a tune-up, although I already swiped one of the brakes for something else.

Stolen: 2001 chrome Redline 24" from the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington state early August 2011. All stock except black Specialized fork. Frame had dent on gusset at headtube. Was covered in beer and hippie stickers when stolen. Especially look for it in Washington, Oregon, Idaho but could be anywhere in the US. Then proceed to kick their butt and then you can have it.

for new DJ mtb's, you just sort of have to accept that mtb's are more expensive than bmx.  the suspension fork adds a lot to the price (because they retail from $250 to $550+ just for the fork). good gears also add to the price.  a cheapo mtb simply will not stand up to abuse--the typical low end cross country fork is downright dangerous to jump with.

your best bet is to look out for bikes on craiglist with low usage (if it's heavily used, the supsension fork, in particular, could be in bad shape).

a lot of DJ bikes are not coming with gears any more.  but a few still do.

like the 2012 Giant STP:

Re: 24" and 26" DJ/Urban bikes go here.

saw this Atomlab on craigslist. i don't need it. i'm pretty tempted though (if the price was right).  i can't figure why on earth this dude put a purple fork on it.  they must have been on super-clearance.

two interesting things about this frame.  atomlab made the back end suuuuper short. AND the bottom bracket is higher than normal. in fact it appears to be above axle level (bb rise), rather than -0.5" below axle level like most DJ mtb's.  for this reason people run taller bars with this frame.  i could see it working really well with some bmx cruiser bars and rigid fork too though.

Time out! What's the story with the Standard DJ bike?!

Looks rad as sh!t! Very nice!

I just picked up a "custom" three57 to cannibalize for my Mob. I've got a Fox 831 now along with some really nice DT Swiss wheels and Hadley hubs. The 357 is going to be a full rigid street 26. TBD whether I keep it or sell it but looks pretty rad so far. Pics to come of both.

Cmc, did I read somewhere (pinkbike maybe) that you picked up a Killswitch? If so, how do you like it?

Yes, here it is.  It's  a 2010 Killswitch, Large (23"tt), with a 2009 Marzocchi 4-cross fork (100mm).  It's a really fun bike. I don't actually jump it as much as I thought I might though, since I'm so used to hardtail, I just ride my Mob.  I haven't actually brought it to the mountains, either, because I ended up doing DH bike rentals.  So, in reality I haven't given it the riding it deserves.  It can be pretty fun on rough xc trails too though.

Very nice!

Been doing a lot of Internet biking since I tore up my shoulder... Gives me a lot of bad ideas. I'm really digging the whole slopestyle/full suspension DJ bike concept.

I really want one even though I haven't had a chance to ride a killswitch yet though so I thought I'd ask.

That looks great. I've been contemplating doing that to my shonky for a long time, or just getting a different cruiser altogether. Now that I've seen the mob, I'm convinced that's the route I want to go.
