I had this bike, same color and all. My brother left it outside for 1 night, it rained, and it got rusted...I live in Florida and the humidity + rain will destroy a bike...it was never the same and eventually I gave it to my brother and he gave it away.

No problem Fox... I'm trying to get more 90's GT catalogs as we speak! I have almost mastered the Dyno and GT s/n deciphering... so let me know if u need any input on year! Now I'm going back to packing up your bikes to ship!... :-)

hey kandi, i took the images you posted from the 96 catalog, and made a .pdf
if you scan any more catalogs, send me a copy (t's a pain getting them from a post), and i'll do them too.

Sweet!... That would be awesome! I have the bid in on the only GT catalog on the bay right now.... It appears to be a mid 80's catalog... doesn't say exactly what year it is. I keep searching, but not much has been surfacing lately. Keep me posted and I will do the same!

Re: 1996 Dyno VFR
woah! thats a blast from the past. i had that exact same bike before the bike i have now. i loved it. it was so light and ace for throwing about off of dirt jumps. lovely colour too. only problem with it was the rear dropouts, they didnt last very long with taking wheels off and on to repair punctures/buckles etc...

Re: 1996 Dyno VFR
LOL the Dyno catalog couldn't even feature a picture of one of its own racers. Thats why Dyno was never taken seriously. But now that I own two I'm trying to treat them like real bikes. So whats the code Oldschoolbmxgrl to decifering our Serial Numbers?

haven't seen kandi on in a while. with 90's dynos, the first numeral is the year
ex. sy6xxxxxx = 1996

Re: 1996 Dyno VFR
Thanks Skinny. But there may be a wrinkle.
My one Dyno is serial #S8ITXXXXX I think. So that makes it a 1998.
But my other Dyno is #S0JTXXXXX I think. So that makes it a 2000.
However lol, on the other side it is also stamped GE 2001 which would clearly make it a Giant built 2001 right?
My two Dyno's are now listed it in the museum. Will try to compare the decals and set up to verify if its a 01 or 00.

Re: 1996 Dyno VFR
i think the third character represents the month. so your 88 would have been made in september. I = 9th letter, september = 9th month. the other would be j = october. bikes made at the end of the year are sometimes sold/marketed for the following year. so it's probably a 2001 by the catalog and decals. i'm not 100% on that, but that's the story i'm going with. not sure how or when the ge 2001 stamp got there, or what it means exactly, but you could be right. i have the 2001 gt/dyno catalog scanned, and will post it in the catalogs post under restoration as soon as i get it into pdf format. that may help us out.

Re: 1996 Dyno VFR
I agree I think alot of times from other research Ive done on Redlines, end of year built bikes get decaled for the following year like cars do. Love to see some Dyno scans as I may pick up two more of different years.
