Re: 1983 Hutch Pro Racer

Hey gang. Just a quick question. Should I stick with these plastic pedals (which suck) to save weight? -or- Should I go with a set of aluminum? They'd look better and..., lol, they're NOT plastic.

Re: 1983 Hutch Pro Racer

If those plastic pedals suck . . . change 'em. Even if it's to plastic ones that don't suck. I, me personally, speaking for myself, in my opinion would put on a set of aluminum ones. That way you get form and function.

Is that a kickstand on a Pro Racer?

Re: 1983 Hutch Pro Racer

Big, Yes Sir it is. I actually ride *all* my bikes. I refuse to lay my bikes down on the ground. A kick stand is the only way, hence all my bikes have a kick stand.

Thanks, Comay, I just wanted at least one person to back me up in my decision. Thanks. smile

Comay, not tryin' to be a smart-@ss, but how else can I keep it from an accidental knock-over when I park it somewhere? Believe me, if there was another way, I'd do it. Thanks for the input though. smile

Beautiful bike! Where are the Pro Stars? They had the sickest factory part setup available. I loved Hutch nice clean bikes.

Re: 1983 Hutch Pro Racer

anyone following this topic, might notice that it just got shorter.  enough with the bashing about someones personal taste in parts on their bikes!!  many people don't care for the kickstands that Fox or anyone else uses, but it is their bikes and their choice.  there were some decent points made on the subject, but just in the wrong way, with personal attacks!  Give it a rest, this has been discussed in the past and it may be discussed again, but the way it usually ends up (like this thread), just gives me a headache!!

Re: 1983 Hutch Pro Racer

I know my post wasn't bashing, but I'll try to consolidate it along with the general feeling Polyhead was trying to get across in a not so subtle manner lol:

Fox!  Your Hutch is cool, but the parts do not do it justice!  smile

There now, that wasn't so bad? lol

Mutt, that's MUCH better. I think I missed any *bashing* that went on, but I bet it was not very nice, eh?

Re: 1983 Hutch Pro Racer

Well...    EDIT: Strike that, was thinking of the GT post.
I don't totally remember all that was said about the Hutch, (thanks alot short term memory!)
My above post is the best way I can put it, cool bike, tons of potential, but it's screaming for expensive unobtainable Hutch parts haha JK (costly hutch parts = blah)  Era correct parts would be just as good  wink  doesn't need to break the bank just cause it's a Hutch.

This thing is soooo light and fast. Besides the *rust* (thanks for pointing that out, SpeedFreak, ya nut, lol) I am gonna keep this thing exactly the way it is. I like it like this. smile

Re: 1983 Hutch Pro Racer

Wow this is an old thread

I have two things to add here.  As far as taking your bike and buying "correct" Hutch parts.  Well you would have a bike with more Hutch parts than anyone who was racing at the time his bike was new.  I bet not even the Hutch team had bikes with all Hutch parts.  With that said I like the spirit of assembling a bike in the spirit of the time.  All custom parts.  Only beginners raced stock bikes. because they had not been exposed to all the cool parts that you could buy individually but not on a complete bike.  Once they started going to the track, it would be "Oh, CW bars, "Those are cool"  Thus I like the bikes that are built like they were race bikes.

As far as the kick stand, First rule of racing is remove reflectors and kick stands. So I would remove it.
