Re: A question about 22" bikes

Agree that he rims are fine. Any issues with them are just mental as they are unwlelded, pinned and look like road bike rims to me but the tires suck so bad i am riding my 24" DB.

I ride park and a little street but will wait for real tires.

I've actually been riding my 20" Dirtbike b/c of the tire issue!

I just got a message from Keith @ Faction regarding the original tires that came stock on the Zeitgeist. They have some leftovers and I will be buying some. I'll let you know via PM how many I can get and what kind of price I'm looking at, shipped from the UK. Would you be interested in some until the S&M ones are available?

I have really been thinking of getting some kind of custom 22" from Standard, they are the best without a doubt.

I was wondering how stupid it would be to get a bike that is a 22" & a 24"?  with removable 990 mounts?  That way if the 22" craze doesn't catch on I can just ride it as a 24"

I don't know if that would look awkward to begin with but what do you guys think?  At this point I am just worried about tires and wheels.

You can already run 22"s in a 24" cruiser.  In the last couple of pages I posted a picture of a We The People Avenger 24" with 22" wheels and 22" fork in it, and also a InDust Cuatro 24" with 22" wheels (and a 24" fork).   So yeah, weld two pairs of brake mount posts and it would be 'convertible.'

I was even thinking about a 24" fork with a special double-slot dropout where you could put the 22" wheel higher up.  I can't imagine a way it wouldn't look gross though.

Just commit to 22" !

That's actually not a bad idea.  But if you wanted to do double slots for different size wheels, removable dropouts would be cool if you could find a REALLY good way of securing the crap out of them.

On the front fork with a 22" on a 24" if you could find a way to have the smaller wheel mounts leave enough space at the bottom of the fork so it'd look like a Bottema fork?

I have been desperately seeking an excuse (and the time and the money) to do a 24" version of this bike.  Since these bikes are considered goofy anyway if you did removable dropouts this would sort of be the bike to mess with I guess.  But if I am sinking all this money into this I know I need to buy extra wheels in case anything happens to the others.

If you could get away with two sets of the rear dropouts on the back since it's not in the way anyway.

Just for grins I am working on a 3d model of one just for grins.  It will not be crazy detailed,  but I am going to send it to Rick @ Standard to see how feasible doing one of these would be.

Give me a few days on the video.

InDust Cuatro 24" (proto #2) and InDust 2ton 22" (proto #2)

Note how the 8" bars on the Cuatro line up roughly equal height as 9" on the 2ton (as I was talking about earlier in the thread):

Looking good, Cullen! Had the Standard at the trails today and can't wait for the S&M stuff to be released.

Re: A question about 22" bikes

Just got another 22" wheelbased frame from Standard. Apparently, someone didn't want it and Standard put it up for sale on their Facebook page. It's got a 22" TT, 3/8 rear axle and it's modeled after the 250L--and it was only $150! Thanks Rick and Co. I'll post pics when it arrives.

I also spoke with Sean Mckinney at S&M today and the tires, tubes and wheels are in the system for pre-ordering. 22" Holmes isn't, yet. Stay tuned for updates on the S&M/Revenge 22" products.

How could you go wrong at $150? At the very least, I have my insurance frame.

Faction has the new Amero kit available on their website; it's $1,000!!! I suspect that the S&M 22" Holmes will be popping-up soon, as well.

I'm not sure if anyone caught this or not, but at the top of that page it says...

"This is a demo store. Any orders placed through this store will not be honored or fulfilled."

So basically the prices could change.

This is why Chris (the owner of Bikes and Boards of Selden, NY) and I have a massive pre-order at S&M for their 22" stuff. If all goes the way S&M have indicated it will, their pricing will be in line with their 20" stuff and it will be available by mid-to-late August. They finally have their new race frames available for pre-order for retailers with pics and specs on The Building Distribution website, so hopefully the 22s will be right behind.

Click the link below to see the tire that S&M will be selling with the 22" Holmes. This is the tire that was originally used on the Faction Zeitgeist. S&M bought the mold and will have the tires molded to their own specs.

Re: A question about 22" bikes

Great news. Bummed about the tires though.
I figured they would do a whole new thing.

This 22 thing won't really take off until the tires are in par with 20" options in my opinion.

It appears that the first go round will be strictly dirt-oriented. S&M actually bought the molds from Innova and will be making a hire-quality version of the tire. It's very similar to a DirtMonster. If the 22" takes off, then look for street tires to be available. Maybe S&M will buy the molds for the Meghana tires and make those better quality, as well?
