Loving the Schwinns. What is the maximum gearing (chainring and freewheel) that you've found to work on the 2005-2006 Schwinn Sting? Thanks! -- Philip ...My "show" Sting has a 39t with a freewheel in back and it has a decent chainline. There's enough clearance that a 40 might be doable. My "race" Sting has a profile cassette and by flipping the cog to move the chain outboard gains a little, but not much. I'd suggest planning for 14t or smaller on the back and no bigger than 40 on the front.
What freewheel would you recommend for a 14T gear? Wish White Industries made one with a 14T gear!!!
I have tried the ACS CLAWS and the Crossfire, I prefer the Crossfire. I've heard good things about the Excess freewheels as well.

Thanks for the information. Seems that freewheels with a gearing of 14T or less can only be used on a flip-flop hub. Are there any freewheels with a gearing of 14T or less that don't need a flip-flop hub?

Some of the stash...some still here and some already sold off for new projects....
Edit**** Holy smokes, I did not realize I had so many Schwinns, as almost all of these are sold! It goes to show you that I do not get sentimentally attached to my bikes, so if you see something you want, sooner or later I will sell!!!!

And I liked model kits as a kid....

An actual Schwinn Scrambler shipped to me by an Antique Shop- purchased off of eBay. It was advertised as to be 'Professionally Packed"!!![]()

My temporary art installation, usually they aren't stacked like this but the cable guy is coming tomorrow and I don't want him touching my bikes.
