1975 Webco Team Replica

California Dreamin'

This is an original California Webco that has been restored. It has mostly original parts. It was purchased and then restored by the previous owner. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and started riding BMX in 1979. I don't recall seeing any Webcos except for in my copies of Bicycle Motocross Action magazine. After I got back into BMX I became inspired by the 70's BMXers because they were the true pioneers of the sport. I remember seeing pictures of Archie Watson riding a Webco with Motomags and getting massive air, despite the bike weighing probably over 30 pounds.
* FRAME : 1976 Webco Team Replica
* FORK : 1975 dated Ashtabula
* RIMS : Motomag II's (originally had Araya steel rims)
* TIRES : Black Knobby (reproductions)
* CRANKS : 1975 dated Ashtabula 6 1/2"
* SPROCKET : Takagi MX 44t
* BARS : Wald MX
* GRIPS : AME Grey Cam-Style (originally had black Oury's)
* STEM : 1975 dated single clamp Ashtabula
* PEDALS : Rat-Trap Style
* SEAT : Reproduction black sattle
* SEAT CLAMP : original metal clamp

The bike as pictured has Motomags. I have the original Araya steel rims but they need to be restored so I put on the Motomags until they are finished.

Re: 1975 Webco Team Replica

Here is what the bike looked like before it was restored:

As you can tell by the blue and silver registration sticker, this Webco is from California.

Al, when did you get the webco ? Did you restore or did the seller? That is a sweet ride but not as cool as my team R. Bbig_smile

Re: 1975 Webco Team Replica

No, I didn't restore it. I would have left it alone, even though it was pretty rough. A survivor is only original once, as soon as you restore it, it isn't original anymore. I bought it because I wanted a Webco so bad. I want to bring it back to as original as possible and have a California registration decal but still need the other seat tube decalse. I also need a seat post and to restore the original rims which I have. I cruise this bike at night sometimes in the city. It is fun to ride.

Re: 1975 Webco Team Replica

Here is the bike now that I have restored the original wheels. Those are Araya steel rims for .105 spokes (another member told me they are Araya Model 17 (3) - version 3's). The front hub and the rims are original to the bike. The coaster brake is Shimano MX which was NOS. The front hub is also a Shimano MX. The spokes came from a friend.

The bike is not complete yet, I still need to do several things for it before it will be done. I still need the seat tube decals, that would be the Wi and the Replica decal (the Wi on there is a prism decal). I need to replace the seatpost with the correct chrome one and the grips should be black Oury's. Plus I would like to replace the rear rim as it is in bad shape.

Rode the bike about 25 miles today, the coaster brake is great and spings good.
