Old meets new again.....Standard Bykes STA-500 Custom...The "Ricksta"
![]()
DISCLAIMER: OUT OF RESPECT TO JOHN DEBRUIN AND HIS ACQUIRED HUTCH NAME THIS CUSTOM FRAME MAY APPEAR TO BE THE SAME DESIGN AS THE ORIGINAL 80’S HUTCH TRICK STAR BUT IT IS NOT. I DESIGNED IT TO MY OWN SPECS USING SEVERAL DIFFERENT MEASUREMENTS AND GEOMETRY FIGURES FROM THE BEST HANDLING BIKES OF THE MID 90’S SUCH AS THE HOFFMAN BIG DADDY, THE STANDARD TAO / SHORTY, AND THE MORALES FLATLAND FRAME.
NOT ONE SINGLE SECTION ON THIS FRAME IS THE SAME AS A HUTCH TRICK STAR IN TUBING SIZE, LENGTH OR DIAMETER..…..NOT ONE.
AFTER VIEWING THESE PHOTOS YOU MAY NEED TO TAKE A FEW WEEKS OFF WORK TO RECOVER FROM THE SHEER AWESOMENESS EXHUBERATED BY THE FOLLOWING PICS….YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! ![]()
My goal with this build was to have a modern day bike with old/mid school styling that I could just totally thrash on and not have to worry about breaking anything that would cost a fortune to replace. As most of you know I had started building a Futuristic Black Woody Itson Tribute Trick Star but gave up on the project in fear of destroying the frame or other expensive parts and instead have decided to make the move to a new school build. I am not a new school rider though, still use both brakes and prefer a mid-school type setup, which is exactly what I have achieved here……well, enough blabber……enjoy the pics……![]()

WOW!!!
That looks really awesome.
Great frame design. I love some of the little details like the top tube protruding thru the seat mast (like an old GT). The rear dropouts look very modern and sleek, and the front triangle is a really nice TS interpretation.
Great job, and looks like standard did wonders with your vision.![]()

Re: Old meets new again.....Standard Bykes STA-500 Custom...The "Ricksta"
Pretty sick bike. The blue is amazing. Does standard have in house painter/powderer? or was that done else where. Regardless turned out amazing.
I do plan on having a well respected member here powder it the wrong dayglo pink color before I install some 87 PFT team model decals on it.
I will call it NOS refinished so I can charge the big bucks too.

Re: Old meets new again.....Standard Bykes STA-500 Custom...The "Ricksta"
Thanks everyone!!
It was a long (and costly) process but it was all worth it!!
Powder was done by a shop in California cause I had originally planned to do a candy over chrome but changed my mind and went with a metallic base instead.

There is no "loop tail" rear triangle... so he will be OK.
