1999 Poverty BTS
1999 Poverty BTS
Here’s the ol BTS Would have been Morales Bikes 2nd gen BTS frame but because of quality issues they were all sold off to Dans Comp then sold under the Poverty name blah. So yeah quality is more than questionable but it’s lasted a pretty long time without breaking in half at least. Heavy frame too, around 8lbs.
Lets see...
The dropouts are soft (cut away material and hard surfaced mine, did the same for my friends Morales BTS, no probs after that)
Both the Poverty and Morales versions had very thin walled headtubes but the Poverty was the only one to ever give any trouble (ovaled out, repaired, press fit lower bearing cup with a brass spacer in the headtube, never gave me trouble ever again)
The entire rear triangle twisted far to easily...
The only plus with this frame was that it didn’t have the rear peg bosses as the Morales did, unless you only rode flat, running a peg on either of the bosses meant a twisted lower chainstay sooner or later ( happened to my friend without even beating on the bike hard, Morales warranted it though)
So if you ever have the chance… don’t buy one!! Get the “03 BTS! I kept riding this frame for 2 reasons, most people didn't know what it was and many people hated it.
Darker pic shows the bike shortly after I got it: Mongoose cranks (DON’T EVER run these cranks!! I broke the spindle in half for @#$# sake!!)
Lighter Pic shows how the bike sat before taken apart to help build the 02 Miron loaner bike
Rims: Odyssey Hazard triple wall
Tires: Snafu Knob Job rear, Hoffman Skidmark front
Bars: GT Freestyle
Stem: Snafu (lower bolt holes drilled oversize and retapped)
Seat: Poverty Sofa (yea the seatpost has been bent forever, no I don't care)
Cranks: Poverty POW cranks (cheap low quality crap, but they've lasted longer than expected)
Fork: Redline Monster (fork legs tweak easily on these)
Sprocket: 44t Haro (just a low end crap steel sprocket)

Yea, didn't know anything about it when I bought the frame, but I grew to like it even if it is a heavy pos lol.

Re: 1999 Poverty BTS
I replied on the Morales page too but Yeah! sometime I'm going to build up the Morales BTS, just going to have to wait for some cash though. It's not going to be a cheap buildup, want to have it almost as an extra rider and probably all black/chrome, black/black or black/white not sure yet, maybe even something else. Waiting till I get a LHD cassette hub, Odyssey 7KA rims, 10t driver and other parts for my daily rider now (going to be around $300 for the parts at cost lol) I don't like the RHD or the Sun Big City rims I'm using right now. Then I'll probably use the RHD ody cassette on the Morales, and decide on the rest of the parts when I figure out the color combo, maybe even black/green hmm.

Re: 1999 Poverty BTS
You're gonna go cassette hub, eh? Hmm.., might I suggest a Odyssey Hazard 10t? Only like $90. Odyssey makes great parts. Now, on rims..., I'd go with a set of Odyssey Hazard Lites with Sapim stainless Double-butted spokes, and alloy nipples.
Just my oppinion really.

Re: 1999 Poverty BTS
Na want to go with the 7KA 36h (or even the Primo Balance), little lighter and wider, but no on the alloy nipples, they will bust like crazy. I'm already running the Odyssey cassette hub off my Mosh Brass 4 star (its labled with the mosh insignia but it's a Odyssey), just hate having it RHD but have no problem with using Odyssey parts. Between the 2 rims, LHD cassette, spokes, nipples, smaller frt sprocket and possibly new forks, still going to be expensive. Not trying to save massive amounts of weight or anything, just already set in my mind what I wanted on this bike and I'm ticked that I had to comprimise for the time being so now I'm being picky about getting the parts I wanted in the first place. *insert whining sound here* lol
