Is S&M the new Hutch?
everybody is trying to jump on the s&m bandwagon!
Looking at all the "used" stuff(not just on the museum) and everything is 20 dollars less than new.(for newschool stuff) and regular new pads for 30 bucks. really?
I'm not complaining that it costs alot but I'm seeing JUNK at retarded prices and ya wonder why its not selling. And some of the stuff that does sell, I can't help but feel sorry for the buyers

Re: Is S&M the new Hutch?
I've been saying this for a few years now. First similarity was cranks that weren't made in huge quantities with a reputation for breakage that everyone wants. Aerospeeds & Prince Alberts.
Then we start to see people "Hutchifying" S&Ms by rechroming or powder coating.
Personally, I feel S&Ms look better a bit rough.

Is S&M the new Hutch? No.
S&M never went away. S&M didn't go through 10 different owners and lawsuits and namechanges. S&M is still S&M, not some new overpriced Taiwan made garbage with an old logo.

Re: Is S&M the new Hutch?
Its bound to happen to a midschool rider owned company. S&M is the most popular one from that era so its not surprising that the stuff is going up in price.

I don't know. Hutch tends to create drama, and conflict. S&M threads tend to create good vibes, and pic/info/memory sharing. I honestly cannot remember any drama started over S&M.

The S&M thread only reminds me of stuffs I don't remember. And gives me that good feeling, too. It was a big part of my coming of age in BMX going back to getting my first S&M in '89. I have definitely spent a little more than I should have on a couple of pieces but I'm cool with that.

Would love to find an old Mad Dog, Holmes and Platform Dirt Bike. I'd like some 1st Gen Slams. I also need to find some stickers for an HAF and an early Challenger. Is anyone doing repops?

Re: Is S&M the new Hutch?
Back in the day, a top of the line Hutch was the price of a used car in the 80's. I never owned own because me and my racing buddies used to laugh at the " yuppie Hutch boy's " who dropped a grand on a bike that would never see dirt or a jump for that matter. Just guys who would spend all their time polishing the bike and using ArmorAll on the tires. I actually liked the bikes especially the Judge and Pro Star because it was decked out and needed no upgrades in my opinion. I dropped some coin on a Diamond Back Harry Leary Turbo and a Haro Group 1 rs! with custom wheels and pedals, but they were raced weekly from souther California to Montana.
As far as S&M goes.........I have 2 custom 38 Special builds that I spent alot of time and money and love them. They are both 2011 but have an old school look. I will buy nothing but S&M for the most part. Im working on number 3 right now. I love USA built stuff and the quality on both of mine is second to none.
" If You Suck Please Dont Buy An S&M " As Quoted By Moeller Himself..........

Re: Is S&M the new Hutch?
S&M is the exact opposite of Hutch. Hutch and the other bike Companys is what Moeller was running from in the late 80's. Are they going to bring the same money??? maybe? but not for the same reasons. Alot of bikes bring good money. Hutch is a great brand, that has been proven with the rebirth and demand of the new stuff the new owner is making. S&M is a great brand and has been commanding some of the same prices on their rarer parts .... that is the only similarity I see?
There are a few great American Company's I would say one built in Ill. is a better quality bike..but I still prefer the SoCal built S&M beauties

I never thought about it that way. So now I have to say no. I never realized what Hutch stuff goes for. I just love to ride and I happen to have a lot of S&M products. Good times!

Same with mine. I ride mine everyday to work, best bike to ride and i know it won't break! I collect old s&m stuff because it reminds me of my youth, growing up with my mates racing on the weekends and reading all the mags, when s&m started they brought something new to the scene with their funny ads and being rider owned and USA made seemed the bike to have, also buying f&f combo's and building them up with your mates seemed more special at the time.
