Hey Earl! What if I don't own race gear or a helmet? I also need to head to the lab and see if i can put together some kind of street bike. My flatland bike doesn't take to kindly to jumping!

I taught a clinic there in '97 with Mike Gul. Nice track, Illinois racers tend to be fast.

I say clinics are still the best way for a novice to get in the sport, and yes Illinois has some very diversified racers.

Re: O.G.O.A.R CLUB

The track is all downhill with paved turns. Hate to crach in them turns when it's warm, much less freezing. yikes A little frost/snow and you are sure to slide out.

NOT for the timid, that's for sure.

Better bring more than thermals, body armor is a priority. If you aren't used to racing at top speed, you better make sure your brakes work, too. smile

My question is, they are racing in the winter there? Is this a sanctioned event?

I have yet to race there, and I'm not sure the dead of winter is when I want to tackle a challenging track.

I'm gonna check their website for more info...

Re: O.G.O.A.R CLUB

Nothin' on their website about sanctioned racing.

So this is an informal event?

No gate, I assume. No liability, either? No required safety gear?

A bunch of rookies "racing" on a face paced track in sub-freezing temps? What could happen?lol

Re: O.G.O.A.R CLUB

This is my home track, my son, and daughters all race there. As of the track close friends run the track but it will not be a sanctioned as the season is closed. This just a funday and a way for my son to get a jump on his practice runs. I do second having full gear as that second tabletop and the rhythm section is unforgiving....ask my rib cage. I can have track admin there to run the gate but why its just a fun day at the track.....Ted I am unificial track photographer so your pics are coming up.
