Sweden
Hi from Sweden...
Just about to start a reproduction of my bitd bike, an 1985 GT Pro Performer.
It's was a 1985 US built Pro Performer, which unfortunately has long since disappeared from my parents place
Although I managed to source a '85 US frame to build my bitd bike from.
It's currently white but once soon the frame and forks will be repowdered GT green.
Although my bitd bike didn't have 401s, I couldn't resist myself this time:
Pedals were and will be Shimano DXs. The new ones were gold with plenty of rash marks, but I've stripped, polished and added new end caps, either I'll leave them natural or possibly have powdered black.
Brakes will be Nippons, just needed a polish and I added the black lettering to them. Will convert them to the heavy duty hex bolts once they arrive. Levers were originally Tech 7's, but having great problems sourcing a pair, so I'll settle with Tech 5s for now.
The wheels will be Araya Aeros (7W), although the managed to find need a bit more work than I first thought. Had planned to restore them silver, but might end up powdered white depending on how nice I finish I can get on them.
Really enjoying the build so far... My wife, however, she's less than impressed with the mess ![]()

Re: Sweden
I was tempted to leave it white, but even if I did that I'd need it repowdered as the white is much whiter than the original GT white (the seat post is NOS). But since it's my bitd build I'll go for green. ![]()

Go whatever you want man , it's your bike.
Just because you are in Sweden doesn't mean you have to post your build progress in this section.
Im moving this to the catchall of BMX fun because thats what it is.

Re: Sweden
It's a bit tough to see in the photos, but if you compare the frame to the bars you'll see the frame has that blue-ish white... yeah I'm picky
The powder coating job itself is spot on though.

When you compute the length of time between the "EVENT" and "THE NOSTALGIA FOR THE EVENT", the span seems to be about a year less in every cycle.
Eventually the nostalgia cycles will be so close together that people will not be able to take a step without being nostalgic for the one they just took.
At that point, everything stops. DEATH BY NOSTALGIA. Frank Zappa

Re: Sweden
Bit of an update... still some parts on the way.
Got the frame and a few extra parts back from the powder coaters (SuperBikeDan) and couldn't be more pleased with the results.
The seat clamp was in a rough condition when I bought it, but polished it up had then had it powdered. Then sanded and polished of the excess powder.
Before:
After:
Did something similar to a set of Dia Compe Tech 7's. Stripped, polished and painted. Hard to believe they're the same levers now.
Before:
After:
Restored GT Fork Standers, which were originally chrome.
Gt Frame Standers, which were originally black.
The rims will be Araya Aeros on GT Coaster and Superlace hubs, but I still need to get the spokes sorted so that's just a matter of time.
Redline 401s, Shimano DX and GT Power Disk:
Still plenty of work left to do, mostly with the wheels, but so far by bitd rebuild is coming along so much nicer than I could have imagined.

Thermal count is rising, In perpetual writhing. The primordial ooze, And the sanity they lose. Awakened in the morning, To more air pollution warnings. Still we sleepwalk off to work, While our nervous systems jerk. Pretending not to notice, How history had forebode us. With the green house in effect, Our environment was wrecked. Now, I can only laugh, As I read our epitaph. We end our lives as moles, In the dark of DAWN PATROL

Re: Sweden
Refinished the Nippons for the build and very pleased with the results!
How they looked at the start:
I wanted them white and to switch to the heavy duty allen key spindles so I drilled them out before sending them off for powdering. The quick release just needed some minor clean up of the excess powder around the washer to get them looking like this:
To make the inlay black I used an black oil paint Sharpie, then polished off the excess. One of the caliper arms half done:
And the end result:
