Re: 1982 Nomura 26"

My 36 year old son has a complete 1982 Nomura 26" Cruiser that I built back in 1982,using only state of the art (at the time) parts. It's natural polished aluminum and all the matching components are blue. It has original, late 70's Redline Flight Cranks,ProDyne cruiser bars, the original "upside down" Cruiser stem,Araya 7x rims, stainless steel spokes, alloy nipples, sealed bearing hubs, headset and an original Hadley bottom bracket. The brake (rear only) is an original Shimano "one finger" unit and the caliper is a Dia Comp MX 1000.The chrome fork is a 1979 Cook Bros.!
I built this bike originally to race adult cruiser, but never raced it!
It hung in my garage until 1998-only being briefly ridden on rare occasions-until I gave it to my son. He's had it until now-still never raced and rarely ridden. It still LOOKS hot...and still weighs "less than 20 lbs." The bike's only drawback is a "total lack" of Nomura Racing stickers...but I didn't want them on the bike when I built it!
I doubt that Wade Nomura still builds bikes-but he's still in Carpenteria,CA.-maybe he still has a few stickers left?
Anybody got any ideas about this bike's worth? I know it'd be for sale...if someone has the RIGHT AMOUNT of CASH!

Thanks,
BOMAT

WOW,
would be a tragedy to lose a family heirloom like that..
If you do sell it, I imagine it would go for over $1000..
they are quite rare, and very collectible..
the 26 inch stuff has been getting hotter lately too.
send some pics when you can!

BOMAT,

I'd be interested in the Nomura! I've been looking for one and here you are...
I even live down here in Puyallup Valley, so meeting you would be easy.

Re: 1982 Nomura 26"

Hey ROC...

The bike now resides with my son and his family!
I'm NOT actually certain he wants to sell it,but he's mentioned it in the past. I only know it hangs in his garage,as it did for so many years in mine! It's really a COOL bike...and VERY light, just under 20lbs! I'm not sure exactly how many 26" frames Wade built, but I do know I've never seen another in the flesh-only in magazines! I'm trying to get ahold of my son to get the serial number of the bike! If I remember right it was 020...which,to me,would indicate that "no more" than 100 were built! I've seen 2 sold on Ebay this year...the first was a complete bike and it sold for $3750! The second was a "frame & fork"-it brought $2400!

Gotta run...C'ya

Re: 1982 Nomura 26"

BOMAT,

Those prices are crazy, but some people are willing to spend it if there's competition for it.
I was able to pick up a Nomura tribute frame this past week for a alot less. I guess it was my lucky day. If your Son does decide to sell, be sure to post a link to the auction. It would be interesting to see...and who know's, I may just bite on it.

L8R,

Re: 1982 Nomura 26"

To all: Sorry...I guess I jumped the gun a little bit! My son says,
"I'll NEVER sell the Nomura-for ANY price!" He says " it's all I have to remind me of the great times we had when we raced and built this bike together!"
Just a note for info, this frame's serial number is 020...very rare...very light...and very fast...to say nothing of being "very cool!"

Re: 1982 Nomura 26"

I'm trying to establish a NOMURA OWNER'S REGISTRY-in order to
locate & document as many of the approximately 525 Nomura
frames built back in the 1980's!
Anyone owning a Nomura(any size or frame material) or knowing anyone owning a Nomura, please feel free to contact me:

   mathergolf@comcast.net

My research project will eventually contain information pertaining to the documentation of as many Nomura frames/bikes as possible! For security purposes,ONLY the owner's state of residence(NOT the town) will be registered-as well as frame size, material, color and serial number!
I am writing a biography of Wade Nomura that hopefully will be available later this year. I'd like to include information on as many of his legendary racing frames as possible.
Anyone that feels they may have helpful information for this project is also welcome to contact me! All contributions of this type
will eventually be acknowledged in my book!

Thanks...

Well Bob, I can account for the where abouts for one, it is in the Sun Valley Landfill in Sun Valley Ca. A friend of mine had one which was also a 26 that we broke jumping it. This was around 1983.

Re: 1982 Nomura 26"

I was lucky enough to race on Wade Nomura's personal bike back in the day. It was actually a bad move for me at the time. I had been racing all year on my OM flyer and qualified for the main against Robert Fed...man I'm reaching deep here...D.D. Leoni and who knows who else. I had the gate next to Fed who was just ripped and fast as hell. I had been talking to Wade and he offered to let me race his bike in the main. I got so caught up in the offer that I took him up on it with out taking into consideration just how different our set ups where. His gearing was set up for to spin and mine was a couple teeth larger a 40 maybe, any way, I got out of the gate fast and topped out before the first turn. I hung in there, but should have run what I brung as we used to say.

This was back in maybe 82...it's all a blur these days, but it was a National in Lancaster, California. If your reading this Wade, thanks for the ride...it's nice to have that tucked away as a great memory.

By the way...you guys might be interested in the bike I have tucked away in my garage. It's the  #2...that's right #2, actually more like 00002 serial numbered OM Flyer in Powder Blue, with matching landing gear fork and bars. It is the second rendition with the Canti's and derailer hanger, but #2 non the less. The owner Mike of SE gave it to me personally. I believe Scott B. has the #1 I've never built it and now have the urge to build it after seeing just how bad ass they were. I guess I've been away from it for too long. I'll post a picture of the frame and if I can find the right parts from back in the day, I'll buid it and post that as well.
