Justin, will do. If I find one, you'll be the first to know......I buy bikes in Grandbury about every 3 months or so and get about 4-5 at a time for about $25 from a guy that my father-in-law is friends with.

I remember when Murray started the Track Cerified thing bitd and we were all excited by the notion that it actually had quality components. Glad you got ahold of a nice one.

I had one of these, I robbed all the good parts off when I broke the frame at the head tube and put them on an 86 Haro Master

Re: 1981 Murray X20R

My best friend and I had the X20R.  I personally saved for over a year from my paper route and all my gifts to buy one of those babies!  I thought it was the greatest bike ever.

It was heavy though.  It was stolen.  I am still pissed off about that!  I got a Redline frame later and built it up as I saw fit.

Would love to buy one if anyone knows where I can get one like this.

Re: 1981 Murray X20R

I've got an early 80's Murray too... 100% survivor, even the tires (sidewall cracks, but hold air).  Steel wheels need truing, and it should be cleaned up, but its all there.

Tell you what - a couple of you guys have said you want one.  The first guy who posts a photo of himself with a Murray BITD gets this one for the cost of shipping.  Free bike.  I have too many, and was trying to figure out what to do with it anyway smile

I found it on trash day a few years ago.

As soon as it's done pics will go up! I have some black Z wheels that need relaced and I am still trying to decide on what tires to put on. But other than that it will look pretty stock. It's funny I havent bought bike parts in 19yrs but just getting the bike down today and stripping it down..and then spending 4hrs online looking for parts..it's like being 17 again.lol

That's one nice looking bike. It brings back a lot of good memories, making home made ramps  on the street and jumping over friends laying down in the end of the ramps and flying over them.

Re: 1981 Murray X20R

yeah thats the bike i had. my mother threw it out in the trash. still red about that one. i upgraded to black z-rims,chrome molly spokes, mtx graphite pedals, tange 1 piece cranks, powerlight bars, joe murray locking headset, zinc rustproof chain, i put a live to ride/ ride to live eagle sticker over the front murray sticker it fit perfectly over the original sticker, took all the other stickers off, black and white checkered pads, a black fluted aluminum seatpost, black aluminum flywheel, comp III tires, shimano freewheel. all that lightened it up quite a bit.
i'd like to have that bike back again.
i got it at a childrens palace in akron, ohio.
i just cant remember if it was an 81,82,83
i know it came with a elina black seat.
it was semi-affordable with a lot of quality parts.
back when freestyle was just being born.
we used to do kickouts on all the anoying neighbors hubcaps and nock em off. "honor thy teenagers"

Sweet bike man. I remember seeing a kid riding one of these BITD and then looking back at my Huffy Pro Thunder thinking something was 'different'. I then started breaking enough parts on the Huffy and replacing them with quality stuff that I had a decent bike in the end. If only the Pro Thunder came stocked like the X20R.

Re: 1981 Murray X20R

I remember this bike from when I was a kid it was my favorite bike at the time, I just thought it was the coolest bike I had ever seen. Just by seeing this picture brings back all kinds of childhood memories, so it was great seeing the bike again, & going back down memory lane.

Thanks,

Re: 1981 Murray X20R

My grandfather was a roofer. I went to a christmas party at some supply warehouse. Everyone was drunk. I was a little kid at the time. They had a raffle and I filled out a card and won building supplies.... like, a couple hundred dollars worth. They let me have the cash instead of the supplies. My dad took me to by this exact bike with the money. It was really cool to see this pic on here. I forgot all about that bike until I saw this.

Re: 1981 Murray X20R

This bike brings back so many memories of my early BMX years.  I rode bikes since I was about 4, but it wasn't until about 81 that I got my first BMX bike, a 50 pound Nishiki from a  garage sale.  My best friend Brian got the Murray x20r that looked just like this for his birthday or christmas and I thought that this was the best bike that money could buy, and I thought his parents must be super rich to buy this.  I remember helping him take off all the relectors and stickers and replacing the pads with CA lites.  Those were the good old days of getting home from school and riding BMX until the street lights came on and then racing home.  Good to see one look like this.
