aside from durability the choice between the two is based alot upon personal preference. i prefer paint but im not trying to sway anyone from using either of the services advertised here, so it might not be to friendly to get into any disadvantages in this particular thread.

What ya' need ?? ![]()
I'm going to do a anodizing run in a week or two/three ... red and maybe blue (Bright/Shiny ano, most shops do not offer "bright dip" anodizing !!)
$40-$50 for a set of cranks for example.
Don't think there is a marble anodizing by the way.

These are approximate prices as there are numerous considerations in the labor involved for more complex pieces. I offer a discount on multiple items. Prices include minor repair and prep work as well as disposal fee. It does not include the return shipping which varies greatly depending upon number of parts shipped, destination, dimensions, etc. We can make sure all stamps and weld beads maintain their visibility at your request as well depending on the desired finish quality. For ground out or washed stamps, we also offer Laser Etching but please allow 2-4 week additional completion time. We do minor repair work but need to see project pics to do so first, so please include pics of special areas with your initial quote request. Usual turnaround time is 4-6 weeks for most jobs. Please email any questions to: 2RADDRESTOS@Comcast.net

he charges $80 for a frame, fork and bars set. The price includes media blasting and powdercoating of stock colors. He can do candy colors also for an added price. This guy is good! The only thing extra is shipping. He wraps everything and uses a dacent amount of bubble wrap too! Hes done 2 of my frames already and he's working on doing a set of GT mags I got too. More of an experimental thing with the mags.
Some pix of the work

This is the shop where I take care of the bike business that comes in. I oversee the process of getting the bikes in and out and make sure that they are done the way that they are supposed to be done. PM for any questions about this. Thanks!

Paint looks better, is thinner so weld quality is not hidden
Powdercoat is far more durable and is generally actually cheaper than a quality paint job
paint = show, powder = rider, although a good powdercoater can do a show quality job (but it wont be cheaper than paint)
clear as mud? Thats the best summary I can give you...

powdercoat is like a baked on paint, it is much thicker and more durable than paint, but it can hide welds and in some cases even fill in the serial number... see my post above ![]()

Another reason some might want to pick one vs another is to have it era correct. Even if powder may look better/smoother, I think paint sometimes looks more authentic on some older bikes. I'm not sure. But, I don't think many of the real early bikes were powder coated factory.
I know some powder jobs can pull of some sweet effects. But, it's really gotta be tough to achieve something like a paint job with silver undercoat. Some times powder just looks too good to be that old.
