Re: 1978 Webco

My guess is a '78 Webco, and if you take the Forks off, see if it says Tange on the neck. Also look for a two character Year/Month code (A = Jan, B = Feb, etc. + 8 = '78, 9 = '79, etc).

I just picked this one up:

And while your forks are a little different than mine (look at the holes):

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o274/mkelty/Webco/ForkCloseup.jpg

..they appear to be the same Tange 1200W design:

Mine say 8B, so I'm guessing they are February of 1978.

The Webco I rode as a kid had the Tange 1200, which seem to be a '79-ism:

Mine was in Red, almost identical to this, only with Skyway Tuff I's:

Re: 1978 Webco

well took the day off to do some stuff for myself today . i pulled the forks off and they do not have any markings . so i really have no idea what they are ... the frame is cleaning up really nicely too . a few chips and scuffs but i am just going to polish up the old paint and re sticker it .

Re: 1978 Webco

Look like Cooks forks to me.From the research I've done on Webco, the serial is meaningless for dating the frame.I know the Replica model was around since '78 thru-?'80\'81 maybe?Makes me wonder how all these posted Webcos got the correct year listed.I just call mine a '78 cuz I built it with parts that were around then.

Re: 1978 Webco

The early webcos came with no hole drilled in the brake bridge for rear brake callipers. Prism decals started in 78. Early models came with the ashtabula forks and then later the tange. The webco for was offered in 78 but did become a stock option till 79. I hope this helps you guys!
